To find a particular animal part in Horizon Forbidden West, start with the pouch or quiver upgrade you want—not a hunt for every animal. Check the recipe at a workbench, note the missing part, then use the game’s job and map guidance to focus your search. Animal hides and bones help Aloy craft larger bags and quivers, increasing how much ammunition or how many resources she can carry.
Start with the upgrade recipe
At a workbench, inspect the pouch or quiver upgrade you want and identify the animal part it requires. Set that upgrade as a job if the option is available; the job and map guidance can help narrow your search. Follow the current on-screen prompts, since button labels and interface details can vary by platform or update.

Gather only what the selected recipe calls for. A February 17, 2022 material guide lists examples such as squirrel bone for a trap pouch and raccoon hide for a hunter-arrow quiver. Later upgrades in its table include parts from peccaries, rabbits, bighorn sheep, salmon, owls, crabs, lobsters, and gulls. Animal locations: a representative checklist
Older location-guide descriptions name wildlife across several broad groups. This checklist is useful for recognizing the kinds of animals you may need, but it is not a complete, verified species roster or a species-by-species map.

Where to look for squirrels in the Daunt
A search-result excerpt from PlayStationTrophies says squirrels occur throughout the Daunt and suggests looking south of the bonfire near Redhew Quarry. Treat that as a useful starting point, not a guaranteed spawn or an exhaustive route: the excerpt does not establish exact coordinates or current spawn behavior. The guide also divides the broader search area into the Daunt, Plainsong territory up to a large central mountain, and the area beyond it, but the available excerpt does not support reliable species-by-species locations for those regions. Hunt or check a merchant?
Hunting lets you target the animal part named in your recipe, but it takes travel and depends on access to the region where you can find the animal. Checking an available merchant may be a useful alternative, though merchant inventories vary and no complete current regional inventory is established here.

The PlayStation Store listing distinguishes PS4 and PS5 editions and lists a PS5 Complete Edition that includes Burning Shores. Do not assume every edition includes the expansion; check the store listing for your platform and the edition you own. Why animal parts matter
Guerrilla senior designer Steven Lumpkin described the crafting purpose in a PlayStation Blog article: “Como artesana consumada, Aloy puede usar pieles y huesos de animales para coser mejoras nuevas para las bolsas y la aljaba.” The article explains that those upgrades expand capacity for ammunition or resources.
