You may be able to access your Minecraft account without remembering its email, but you still need to sign in to the Microsoft account linked to your Minecraft profile. Try a phone number or another account alias first; if you do not know the username, use Microsoft’s lookup and recovery options. No physical Minecraft product or support agent can bypass Microsoft’s identity checks.
First, identify the Microsoft account linked to Minecraft
Minecraft sign-in uses the Microsoft account connected to the player profile. You do not necessarily need the forgotten email address: Microsoft personal accounts can also use a phone number or another email alias associated with the same account. Aliases share the account’s password. Try any likely sign-in address or phone number on Microsoft’s sign-in page: Microsoft account sign-in.
If you forgot the username, look it up or find it on a device
Use Microsoft’s username lookup
If you previously added a recovery phone number or alternate email, Microsoft can send a verification code to that security contact and then show a masked hint for your username. Start with Microsoft’s forgotten-username tool. You must be able to receive the code at a security contact already configured on the account.
Check places where you may already be signed in
- Windows: On a device where the account is signed in, check Windows account settings for the Microsoft account address.
- Xbox: Check the account details on an Xbox profile associated with Minecraft. Microsoft notes that some Xbox players may not remember creating an email address when they signed up.
- Office apps: Look in the account details of Office applications if you used the same Microsoft account there.
- Email inboxes: Search inboxes you can still access for Microsoft purchase receipts or account messages that may identify the address.
These checks help only if the account is recorded on a device or related messages are still available. Microsoft also describes these places in its guide to finding your Microsoft account email address.

Choose the next step based on what you can still access
| What you still have | Best next step | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| A recovery phone number or alternate email | Use Microsoft’s username lookup, then sign in with the recovered username or a known alias. | You must verify a code sent to the security contact already on file. |
| A device or app where the account is signed in, or an old purchase receipt | Check Windows, Xbox, Office, and accessible inboxes for the account address. | This works only if the account or a related message is present there. |
| The username and at least one working verification method | Sign in and add and verify a replacement security method before removing the lost one. | Do not replace all security information at once; Microsoft warns that doing so can restrict the account for 30 days. |
| No usable verification method | Try Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper and use the recovery form if Microsoft offers it. | Recovery depends on account-specific evidence and is not guaranteed. Two-step verification with no accessible alternate method is a major limit. |
| A recovery code saved before access was lost | Follow Microsoft’s recovery-code sign-in or password-reset instructions. | The code must have been generated in advance; it cannot be created after you are locked out. |
Use Microsoft’s recovery form if other sign-in methods fail
Follow the Sign-in Helper and submit the account recovery form if Microsoft directs you there. The form requires a working contact email where Microsoft can reach you; it can be an address belonging to another person or a temporary Outlook.com account. Provide as much accurate, account-specific information as you can. Submitting from a device and location you previously used for the account may help Microsoft assess the request.
Microsoft says recovery-form results are sent within 24 hours. If a request is rejected, Microsoft allows up to two retries per day. See Microsoft’s recovery-form guidance for the current process.

Know the two-step verification and recovery-code limits
Two-step verification with no available method
If two-step verification is enabled and you cannot access any alternate verification method, Microsoft says it cannot recover the account through the form. Microsoft’s recovery guidance states: “If you have turned on two-step verification and cannot access any of the alternate methods to get a verification, we cannot help you, sorry.” A familiar device or usual location may help with some unusual sign-in checks, but neither is a way to bypass verification.
Previously saved recovery code
A Microsoft account recovery code is a 25-digit code generated while you are signed in. It may help you reset access if you saved it beforehand. Follow Microsoft’s instructions for using a recovery code. If two-step verification is enabled, Microsoft says changes may take 30 days to take effect; this is separate from the possible 30-day restriction after changing all security information at once.

What Microsoft support cannot do
Support agents cannot manually change account details or send a password-reset link to get around verification. Microsoft says: “To protect your account and its contents, our support agents are not allowed to send password reset links, or access and change account details.” A physical game, purchased recovery product, or security key that was never configured on the account cannot establish ownership. A security key is useful only if it had already been set up as a sign-in method.
