Updated October 8, 2026: Guerrilla officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering in February 2026 as a co-op action game for PS5 and PC. PlayStation’s current listing still gives no release date. Separately, Bloomberg reported in August that the game was being reworked after negative private playtest feedback; PlayStation has not confirmed that reported change.
What is Horizon Hunters Gathering?
Horizon Hunters Gathering is an upcoming cooperative action game from Guerrilla Games, set in the Horizon universe. The studio announced it on February 4, 2026, with a PlayStation Blog post following on February 5. Its announced central idea is a team of Hunters taking on machines in missions designed for up to three players. PlayStation’s announcement describes distinct Hunter weapons and combat styles, mission modes, a narrative campaign, and a social hub. These are announced plans for a game in development, not hands-on findings.
Guerrilla’s game director, Arjan Bak, said the studio had long envisioned bringing co-op hunting to Horizon and was approaching it “with care, ambition, and passion.” That describes the team’s intent; it does not establish how the finished game will play.
How does its multiplayer work?
The announced format supports teams of up to three Hunters, with matchmaking available. PlayStation says a solo player can take two Hunter NPCs on a mission, so playing without human teammates is supported. The official listing also identifies crossplay and cross-progression. Cross-progression requires signing in and saving with the same PlayStation account.

PlayStation lists PS5 and Steam/PC, though platform availability should be checked again closer to release. Online play on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus Essential or a higher tier, according to the official game page.
What missions and features have been announced?
Guerrilla’s reveal named two mission types:
- Machine Incursion: a high-intensity fight against waves of machines that culminates in a boss encounter.
- Cauldron Descent: a longer, multi-stage trial with rooms that change as players progress.
The announcement also described Hunters with different melee or ranged approaches and weapons, alongside roles and a rogue-lite perk system. A narrative campaign and social hub were part of the original announcement, which framed the game as an ongoing adventure with post-launch continuation. The studio has not published a final feature specification, and later development changes could affect these plans.

What is the reported development rework?
On August 19, 2026, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Guerrilla was reworking Horizon Hunters Gathering after poor feedback in private playtests. Citing anonymous people familiar with the company’s plans, Bloomberg said the proposed direction would remove live-service elements and shift toward a smaller-scope co-op game with a story mode. Bloomberg’s report is not an official PlayStation announcement.
That distinction matters: PlayStation’s current game page still describes an ongoing adventure and does not mention the reported reset. The available official information does not confirm whether the reported changes are final. The report says the game was being reworked, not canceled, and neither source gives a new release window.

Is it still a live-service game?
The February announcement described an ongoing story and post-launch continuation, features associated with a live-service direction. Bloomberg later reported that Guerrilla was moving away from live-service elements. Until PlayStation or Guerrilla confirms a revised plan, the safest answer is that the game’s current service model is unsettled: the original direction was announced officially, while the reported change remains unconfirmed.
When does Horizon Hunters Gathering come out?
PlayStation has not announced a release date. Its current page says more information will arrive later. The game is not currently presented there as available to buy, and no retail edition or price has been confirmed.

PlayStation has offered a playtest signup, but signing up does not guarantee access. Successful applicants are contacted, and participation is confidential, according to the official game page and FAQ.
