The colorful cars, approachable racing and playful world drew praise in September 2026 reviews. Those same reviews also raised concerns about open-world handling, repetitive events, unlock pacing and long loading times. Performance reports conflict, so there is no settled verdict on how smoothly it runs across play modes.
What Hot Wheels Infinite Rush offers on Switch 2
Released digitally on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 10, 2026, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is an open-world arcade racer developed and published by Milestone. Nintendo’s listing describes a world spread across four islands, with events and challenges, four vehicle classes, customization, a Track Builder and more than 150 collectible vehicles. The vehicle count is a publisher-provided content figure, not an independently verified tally.

The design combines free-roam exploration with races and challenges. That gives you room to find activities and build a collection, while the Track Builder extends the toy-car fantasy beyond the preset event layouts. The trade-off noted by reviewers is that ordinary open-world terrain does not necessarily deliver the same precise feel as a dedicated racing track.

How it plays, according to reviewers
Accessible racing and plenty of cars
Several reviews liked how quickly the arcade controls can be picked up, as well as the variety offered by the vehicle classes, bright cars and themed islands. These are the game’s clearest strengths if you want approachable racing and a playful setting rather than a demanding simulation.
#1 Best Overall

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Open-world driving and progression are less convincing
Criticism centers on handling away from the orange track, a large world that can feel underfilled, repetitive campaign activities and the pace of vehicle unlocks. Nintendo Life’s September 6, 2026 roundup reproduces Push Square’s view that moving to an open-world structure did little to improve the experience and could detract from it. The roundup records a range of opinions—not a single consensus score—including Push Square at 6/10, Vooks at 3.5/5, COGConnected at 65/100, Cubed3 at 7/10 and Hardcore Gamer at 4.5/5.
Cubed3 reviewer Will Compton called it “a really solid driving game with some frustrating choices made here and there,” pointing to progression and unlock decisions as a source of frustration. That captures the split: the core driving can appeal, while the structure surrounding it may wear thin.

Switch 2 performance: reviews disagree
The September 2026 technical impressions are mixed, and neither should be treated as a current independent retest. Nintendo Wire reviewer Matthew Powers reported 30 fps in handheld mode, along with long loading times, stutters and input lag. Powers also found that docked play did not materially improve the experience, while praising the islands, car selection, events, resolution and draw distance.
Cubed3’s Will Compton, by contrast, described play as smooth in both handheld and docked modes. Compton also noted long loading and one instance of texture pop-in. Final Weapon reviewer Chris Sanchez likewise reported long loads, freezes and two crashes at race starts during that review; those incidents are an individual review account, not evidence of a verified crash rate.

These reports establish a genuine difference in reviewer experience, not a definitive frame-rate or stability profile. They were published in September 2026, and no post-launch patch history or controlled performance testing is established here. If consistent frame pacing or short loads are essential to you, look for current reports for the version you intend to play.

Who should consider buying it?
- A good fit: players who want colorful, accessible arcade racing, vehicle collecting, a playful open world and local or online multiplayer.
- Think twice: players who prioritize precise handling across all terrain, a consistently varied campaign, fast loading or a performance profile confirmed by current testing.
- Before purchasing: confirm the regional digital price, current add-on details and Nintendo Switch Online requirements if you plan to race online.
There is no controlled comparison here with another Switch 2 racer, so the reviews do not establish that Infinite Rush is better or worse than a particular alternative. The decision comes down to whether its collection and toy-like freedom outweigh the reported concerns about progression, repetition and technical consistency.
