What Armor 3.0 changes
Armor 3.0 introduced three connected build choices: the stats an armor piece emphasizes, bonuses earned by wearing multiple pieces from one set, and how masterworking improves stats. Armor pieces also have a tertiary stat, so an archetype’s two headline stats do not describe its entire roll. Bungie’s launch update explains the armor conversion and system rules in its Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.1, with additional detail in its June 26, 2025 This Week In Destiny.
How armor-set bonuses work
Armor 3.0 sets can grant one bonus when you wear two pieces from that set and a further bonus at four pieces. Those thresholds let you weigh a set effect against the stat distribution you might get by mixing pieces. The available source material does not establish a complete current catalog of set effects, and bonuses are not necessarily identical between sets; inspect the actual perk on the armor you own rather than assuming what a set does.
Bungie documented a post-launch fix on July 18, 2025, for an issue where the Unfaltering Focus Set Bonus perk and a redacted Desert Perpetual set-bonus perk could block other perk activations. That dated fix is a reminder that set behavior can be affected by later updates; see Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.2.

Armor 3.0 stat archetypes
Bungie’s six named archetypes each emphasize a primary and secondary stat. Use the primary focus to match the build’s main ability or weapon priority, then check whether the secondary focus supports what you want next. Each piece also rolls a tertiary stat, so compare the full stat distribution rather than choosing by archetype name alone.

What changed about mod energy and masterworking?
New Armor 3.0 drops have maximum mod energy available regardless of masterwork level. Masterworking no longer boosts every stat: each level adds one point to each of the piece’s three lowest stats, up to five points in each of those stats. Bungie described the maximum as +15 total across those three stats. This makes masterworking a way to shore up a piece’s weaker stats, not a general increase to its whole stat profile.
Bungie’s July 2025 mod notes list basic +10 stat mods at three energy and +5 stat mods at one energy. Those are launch-era figures; consult the in-game mod tooltip for the values currently available. The dated notes are in This Week In Destiny – 07/10/2025.

What happened to existing armor?
Bungie said existing armor stats would transfer one-for-one into the new system, although the display order of stats changed. Legacy armor generally kept its Artifice slots, Exotic Artifice upgrades, and Armor 2.0 masterworks. Bungie noted exceptions for Stoicism, Solipsism, and Relativism; see the armor-conversion details in Update 9.0.0.1.
Some former stat effects became fixed baseline effects instead of being tied to the old stats. Bungie said the effects previously associated with 100 Resilience and 60 Recovery apply by default. The former Mobility baseline varies by class: 30 for Titans and Warlocks, and 40 for Hunters. These conversion details are documented in This Week In Destiny – 07/03/2025.

Mobility and mod details to treat as dated
Bungie’s July 10, 2025 notes said player-facing Mobility was deprecated and described an Enhanced Athletics leg mod for movement speed and jump. They also gave a Mobility cap of 130 when combining sources. The same notes reported changes to Font mods and a reduction in Recuperation’s Orb of Power healing from 70 to 15. These are dated tuning details, not a confirmed statement of current live values; check current in-game descriptions and later Bungie updates before building around them.
