Augments are item-specific modifiers for Perk-a-Colas, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades in Black Ops 6 Zombies. Research an item by earning Zombies XP, then equip one unlocked Major and one Minor Augment for it before a match. Major choices substantially change an item’s behavior; Minor choices add a more limited benefit.
How do Augments work in Zombies Black Ops 6?
Augments are researched between matches and chosen separately for each eligible item. They are not a single, character-wide bonus: you can customize the effects tied to a particular Perk-a-Cola, Ammo Mod, or Field Upgrade. The official Zombies deep dive describes Augment Research as a way to unlock choices for these items, with unlocked effects selected between matches.

Each item has Major and Minor Augment slots. A Major Augment makes a substantial change to the item’s behavior, while a Minor Augment offers a limited advantage. Once choices are unlocked, equip one of each type for that item before entering a match.
How do you unlock and research Augments?
- Reach Player Level 11. The official launch guide says Augment Research becomes available at this level. This is the launch-guide requirement; the cited material does not confirm whether it has changed in later updates.
- Choose an item to research. In the Augment Research menu, select a Perk-a-Cola, Ammo Mod, or Field Upgrade. Research progresses for the item you select.
- Earn XP in Zombies matches. Match XP advances the selected item’s research and unlocks its Augment choices. You can direct research toward an item that fits the role or build you want to use.
- Equip unlocked choices before a match. Select a Major and a Minor Augment for each item you want to customize. Researching unlocks options; it does not automatically equip them.
How should you choose Major and Minor Augments?
Start with the effect you want to shape most. Since a Major Augment makes the more substantial change, use it to define an item’s role; use the Minor slot to reinforce that role or address a different need. Check the specific effect descriptions rather than assuming that all Augments in a category improve the same thing.

- Survivability: look for effects that help you stay alive or recover, if the selected item’s choices offer them.
- Damage or crowd control: compare effects that strengthen attacks or help manage groups of enemies.
- Movement: prioritize options that suit a mobile play style when the item offers them.
- Squad support: consider effects that complement teammates’ needs; the launch guide describes customization for solo or squad play and gives a healer as an example of a squad role.
There is no universally best pairing established by the official materials. The useful choice depends on the item, its available effects, and whether you are playing solo or supporting a squad.
How many Augments are there?
The launch inventory was 108 Augments: 48 across eight Perk-a-Colas, 30 across five Ammo Mods, and 30 across five Field Upgrades, according to Call of Duty Staff’s 2024 launch guide. That is a launch count, not a verified total for the current game.

Later official updates documented additions. The 2025 Season 03 Reloaded announcement introduced Frost Blast, a Field Upgrade with three Major Augments—Ice Slick, Frost Cast, and Flash Freeze—and three Minor Augments—Extension, Frostbite, and Extra Charge. The 2025 Season 05 announcement described Mister Peeks as a Field Upgrade and named Dance Party and Arcane Fury among its Major Augments. The cited Season 05 passage does not establish Mister Peeks’ complete Augment list.
Because later additions are documented and the cited official materials do not establish a complete live roster or all balance changes as of October 8, 2026, check the in-game Augments menu for the current item list and effect descriptions.

Can you change Augments during a match?
Augment choices are selected between matches. Changing your active Field Upgrade during a match is a separate action: the official Zombies deep dive says that switching Field Upgrades resets that Field Upgrade’s cooldown. That swap does not mean you have changed the Major or Minor Augments equipped for the match.
