Bayardo De Murguia said voicing Rodolfo Parra in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II made him proud because he could portray a Mexican soldier loyal to his country—not a character defined by a familiar Hollywood stereotype of corruption or suspicion. He also valued the actors’ freedom to help shape a story they felt was authentic.
Who does Bayardo De Murguia play in Modern Warfare II?
De Murguia voices Rodolfo Parra, a Mexican soldier in the campaign. The game’s official announcement identifies Colonel Alejandro Vargas as a Mexican Special Forces character and places him in the story alongside returning Task Force 141 characters. Call of Duty’s June 2022 announcement provides that context; De Murguia discussed his role in a GamesBeat interview.
Why did the role make him proud?
De Murguia said it felt meaningful to portray a Mexican soldier serving alongside Alejandro Vargas. In his view, the characters were presented as soldiers loyal to their country, rather than being reduced to the corrupt-or-untrustworthy stereotype he associated with Hollywood portrayals of Mexicans.
He described the contrast this way: “It was outside of the stereotypical Hollywood thing where we’re corrupt, or you don’t know. We were just soldiers that were loyal to their country and what they fight for. And I thought that was really cool to be able to portray that.” That is De Murguia’s account of what the role meant to him, not a claim that all Mexican or Mexican American audiences share the same view.

What did he value about the actors’ creative input?
De Murguia also said the performers had latitude to contribute to the story. He felt that freedom helped the actors take pride in what they were telling: “Having that liberty makes us as the actors more proud of the story that we’re telling.”
He characterized the campaign’s Mexican soldiers as people who stand by one another and keep fighting for their country and community despite corruption and violence in the fictional setting. As he put it, “The storyline of how us as Mexican soldiers — we live and we fight for our country, we fight for our city.” These are his interpretations of the game’s narrative, not factual reporting about Mexican institutions or a broad account of Mexican life.
