Baldur’s Gate 3 supports online multiplayer for up to four players, and Patch 8 added cross-play among PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. To play across platforms, players use the Larian Network; you can set up a new cross-play lobby or enable cross-play for an existing save. Modded groups need compatible, matching mod versions, while split-screen is also documented as a play option.
How many players can play Baldur’s Gate 3 multiplayer?
Larian’s historical Early Access FAQ specifies online multiplayer for four players. That is Larian’s documented online party size; the FAQ itself is not a current platform or setup guide.
Which platforms can play together?
Patch 8, released April 15, 2025, added cross-play among PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation 5. Larian said the update also includes cross-platform progression. Cross-play lobbies use the Larian Network. The platform and feature details are in Larian’s Patch 8 announcement.
To set up cross-play, each player should link their platform account to a Larian Account, enable “Allow Cross-Play” in the game’s Gameplay options, and add the other players by Larian Account username. Larian’s cross-play setup guide describes the process.

How to start a new cross-play campaign
- Have each player link their platform account to a Larian Account.
- In the game’s Gameplay options, turn on “Allow Cross-Play.”
- Log into a Larian Account and add friends by their Larian Account username.
- From the main menu, open Multiplayer, choose the Cross-Play tab, and create a lobby.
- Invite friends, configure the lobby, and launch the campaign.
Can friends join an existing campaign?
Yes. Enable cross-play on the specific save before inviting cross-platform friends. From Load Game, select the save and check its Cross-Play option. Load that save, then open Multiplayer to invite friends. Larian’s guide notes that cross-play must be enabled on the save being used.
How multiplayer works with mods
All players joining a modded lobby need matching versions of the installed mods. If the game shows a Mod Verification window, use it to identify mods that need to be installed, updated, downgraded, or disabled before joining.

For a modded PC save that console or Mac players will join, Larian says the save must stay within the console limit of 100 mods, and the mods must be tagged as available on Mac and console. This does not mean arbitrary third-party PC mods will work on those platforms. See Larian’s Patch 8 documentation and cross-play guide.

Yes. Larian’s Patch 8 materials document split-screen co-op and note that Patch 8 brought split-screen to Xbox Series S. The patch notes also include split-screen fixes. They do not establish a complete current compatibility matrix for every platform and hardware configuration, so check the current in-game or platform documentation for your specific setup. Split-screen is local play; it is separate from online cross-play.
