Belgium’s senior men’s national-team goalkeeper selection is announced by the Federal Coach about a week before each international period. Who chooses Belgium’s goalkeepers?
The Federal Coach announces the senior men’s selection, according to the RBFA’s Belgian Red Devils squad page. As of 4 October 2026, the federation identifies Mark van Bommel as the coach taking charge from 15 August 2026, with a contract through UEFA EURO 2028. The coach’s announcement names the selection; the public squad page records players who represented the men’s A team at the latest gathering.
When does Belgium announce a squad?
The RBFA says the Federal Coach announces the selection about a week before each international period. Its squad page is retrospective: it presents the players who defended the Red Devils’ colours during the last gathering and offers individual statistics. Check the federation’s latest announcement for the squad relevant to a particular international window, since the displayed list is a snapshot and can change.
Which goalkeepers are on the displayed squad list?
The RBFA page’s displayed selection lists Jari De Busser, Senne Lammens, Mike Penders and Maarten Vandevoordt as goalkeepers. The names document who appeared in that selection; they do not establish that all four had the same role, that one was first choice, or that the group will remain unchanged for the next gathering.

Does Belgium publish its goalkeeper-selection criteria?
Not in the official material cited here. The RBFA’s public information does not set out a goalkeeper-specific scoring model, a minimum number of club starts, a save-percentage threshold, an age preference, or a fixed order for first-, second- and third-choice keepers. Although the squad page makes player statistics available, it does not connect a particular statistic to the call-up decision.
A 2022 RBFA head-coach job profile said the coach should support choices “with data, technology and objective parameters.” That describes a general expectation for the head-coach role, not a goalkeeper-selection formula or a confirmed practice of the current staff. It would therefore be speculation to present club form, fitness, distribution, command of the area, experience, tactical fit or training performance as established RBFA rules.

What does the goalkeeper coach do?
The RBFA’s 9 March 2023 staff announcement listed Max Urwantschky as a specialist goalkeeper coach under then-coach Domenico Tedesco, for the campaign through EURO 2024. This shows that a dedicated goalkeeper-coaching role has been part of the senior team’s technical staff; it does not establish who holds that role under Mark van Bommel or explain how staff input shapes a call-up.

- It can tell you when the federation says a selection is announced, who appears on the published squad list, and which player statistics the page provides.
- It cannot tell you from these sources why a particular goalkeeper was selected, how candidates were compared internally, or what match role each selected player was expected to have.
For a current answer about the next gathering, use the RBFA’s latest squad announcement rather than treating a previously displayed group as a permanent depth chart.
