How much will the PS5 cost now?
Sony’s English-language announcement lists recommended retail prices in the U.S., U.K., Europe and Japan. These are not guaranteed retailer prices; taxes, stock and retailer pricing can vary.

The updated prices took effect April 2, 2026. Sony says buyers in territories not listed should check local retailers or direct.playstation.com, where available. The four markets above are not an exhaustive list of territories affected.
PlayStation Portal prices
Portal, Sony’s remote-play device rather than a PS5 console, also received new recommended retail prices effective April 2, 2026.

How much did prices increase?
Tom’s Guide compared the new console prices with prior listed prices and reported the following changes. These are that outlet’s comparisons, not figures stated in Sony’s announcement.

Why did Sony raise PS5 prices?
Sony’s stated reason was “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said the company decided to raise prices after careful evaluation, calling it a necessary step to continue delivering gaming experiences.

The announcement did not specify individual causes such as tariffs, memory costs, component shortages or geopolitical events. Those should not be treated as Sony’s explanation for this decision.

- Check local pricing if you are outside the four markets in Sony’s announcement.
- Confirm the exact model: the PS5, Digital Edition and PS5 Pro have different recommended prices, and Portal is separate hardware.
