There is no single file size for every game called Modern Warfare. Activision’s published PC storage requirements are 175 GB for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), 125 GB for Modern Warfare II, and 149 GB available for Modern Warfare III—or 78 GB if COD HQ and Warzone are already installed. These are PC requirements, not measurements of every current installation on every platform.

Why Modern Warfare file sizes differ
The title can refer to three different games
“Modern Warfare” may mean the 2019 game, Modern Warfare II, or Modern Warfare III. Their official PC figures are different, so check the full game title before estimating storage.
Available space is not always the installed footprint
A storage requirement tells you how much room Activision says to have available for the relevant PC installation; it does not promise that every player’s installed game will occupy exactly that amount. The cited figures do not establish current installed sizes across all platforms, storefronts, and configurations.
Shared components and selected content matter
For Modern Warfare III, Activision’s 2023 PC requirement distinguishes between an installation with COD HQ and Warzone already present and one without them. Optional modes and content packs can also change what is installed. In a March 2021 update, Activision described reductions to the combined Modern Warfare and Warzone footprint and said players could remove individual modes; keeping Campaign, Multiplayer, or Special Ops could require reinstalling optimized content packs.

How to estimate the space you need
- Identify the exact game. Match your copy to Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare II, or Modern Warfare III.
- Check the platform. The figures above are PC requirements; do not treat them as confirmed console installation sizes.
- For Modern Warfare III on PC, check shared installs. Activision’s October 2023 figure is 149 GB available if COD HQ and Warzone are not already installed, or 78 GB if they are.
- Account for the content you choose. Installed modes, shared components, and later updates can affect the space used.
- Use your current installer’s prompt before freeing space. The cited figures do not give a current measured size for every platform and content combination.
What the 2021 file-size reduction does—and does not—tell you
Activision reported that a 2021 update reduced the combined Modern Warfare and Warzone footprint by 30.6 GB on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and by 33.6 GB on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those numbers describe a reduction to that combined installation in that update, not the total size of Modern Warfare by itself or a current size for any platform.
