Where Winds Meet supports online play with up to four friends, but that does not mean every story objective or activity is shared. Co-op, the wider Online Mode, and activity-specific matchmaking are different ways to play; check each activity’s rules and your own progress screen to confirm what counted for your character.
What co-op means in Where Winds Meet
PlayStation describes Where Winds Meet as an adventure you can play with up to four friends, and Steam lists Online Co-op. Treat four as the advertised group size, not a guaranteed limit for every activity: an individual challenge may have its own party cap or entry requirements. PlayStation’s game page also describes multiplayer as optional and notes that some single-player levels are designed for multiplayer exploration.

There are three useful distinctions when deciding how to join friends:
- Co-op session: Explore supported content together with invited friends.
- Online Mode: Enter the broader online world; some exploration progress can carry into Solo Mode.
- Activity matchmaking: Join a particular activity or group challenge, whose eligibility, group size, and rewards may differ from open exploration.
A secondary handbook describes these as separate menu choices and advises checking activity-specific eligibility and progress rules. Its version and balance status are marked unverified, so use the current in-game menu as the authority rather than relying on a remembered menu label. Official game site

Does co-op advance the main story for everyone?
Do not assume that a guest’s presence in your world advances their personal story objectives. The official PlayStation description says multiplayer is optional and that some single-player levels are built for multiplayer exploration; it does not promise that every personal story step is completed for each player in a group. Check each character’s quest log or objective screen after playing together before moving on.
What progress carries back to Solo Mode?
The official Version 1.2 notes specifically say Online Mode exploration supports collecting Treasure Chests and Oddities and completing certain puzzles, with rewards and completion progress synced to Solo Mode. That is a defined set of exploration updates, not a guarantee that all quests, objectives, or activity rewards transfer. Version 1.2 official notes

Can players on different platforms play together?
Yes. Steam lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer, and the official Xbox FAQ confirms online play between Xbox and other platforms. Its account-sharing guidance covers Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and mobile when players log in using the same bound account. Bind an existing account before first Xbox login
The Xbox FAQ warns that if you create an Xbox character first, you cannot then bind that character to an existing character or account from another platform. If you want to continue an existing character on Xbox, link the existing account before your first Xbox login.

Keep the same server region
The FAQ states: “Cross-play and cross-progression only apply within the same server region.” It also says character data cannot transfer between different regions. Check that your group and account are on the same region before troubleshooting a missing character or failed invite.
How to troubleshoot a co-op or progress problem
If you cannot join a friend, or expected progress did not appear, check these points in order:

- Confirm the mode. Make sure both players chose the intended co-op session, Online Mode, or activity matchmaking. Similar-looking online options may not share the same entry rules.
- Check the activity itself. Review its current in-game eligibility, prerequisites, and party limit; the advertised four-player co-op capacity does not establish every activity’s cap.
- Verify region and account binding. Cross-play and cross-progression are limited to the same server region. On Xbox, confirm an existing account was bound before the first Xbox login if you are trying to use an existing character.
- Check each player’s own objective and reward screen. Being in the same world is not proof that a personal story objective or reward was credited. The documented Solo Mode sync applies to specified Online Mode exploration progress, not every quest.
