To add a second user to your PS5, select your profile picture on the home screen, then choose Switch User > Add User > Get Started. At the sign-in screen, create a PlayStation account if the person needs one, or sign in with their existing account.
Add a second user on your PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, select the profile picture.
- Choose Switch User > Add User > Get Started.
- At the sign-in screen, select Create an Account for a new PlayStation account, or sign in with an existing account.
- Follow the prompts to enter the requested details. If creating an account, check its email inbox for Sony’s verification message and complete verification.
For future sign-ins, use that account’s sign-in ID—the email address—and password. Sony also supports faster sign-in using the PlayStation App. PlayStation Support: Create an account for PlayStation Network.
Choose the right account for the second user
A PS5 user is a profile on the console; a PlayStation account is the person’s account identity for PlayStation services. If the person already has a PlayStation account, use it rather than creating a duplicate. An account used on PS4 can also be used on PS5, and details such as PlayStation Plus subscription, trophies, and friends can be available across both consoles. Sony’s account setup guide.
Set up a child as a family member
Use the same console route—Switch User > Add User > Get Started > Create an Account—and follow the prompts for a child account and parental controls. Sony also provides ways to add a child through Account Management or the PlayStation Family app. PlayStation Support: parental controls and spending limits and PlayStation Family app.

A family manager can add an adult from the console at Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management > Add Family Member, then scan the QR code and follow the instructions. Online, the family manager can invite an adult using their sign-in email; the invited adult must accept. PlayStation Support: Set up a family account.
Review the child’s controls
After creating the child account, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management and review age ratings, playtime, communication, privacy, and spending settings. Purchases by a child are charged to the family manager’s wallet, and Sony says a child’s monthly spending limit defaults to zero. Sony also notes that account-level parental controls apply across devices; the child should verify their email and be signed in for the controls to be effective. Enable game sharing separately if needed
Adding another user does not by itself share games or PlayStation Plus benefits. The account holder can enable Console Sharing and Offline Play at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. This can let other users of that PS5 play the account holder’s downloaded games and media offline and use some PlayStation Plus benefits. Sony allows the feature to be enabled on one PS5 at a time. If the second user is a child, Sony recommends setting a PS5 login passcode for console users. To prevent a child from creating an unrestricted account or using guest login, a family manager can choose Settings > Family and Parental Controls > PS5 Console Restrictions > User Creation and Guest Login > Not Allowed. - Account creation will not complete: Check the internet connection and PlayStation service availability; connectivity loss or service maintenance can interfere with registration.
- The email address is already in use: Sony advises contacting support to verify the email account.
- Try again after checking: Confirm the console is online and services are available, then retry the account setup. PlayStation Support: Create an account for PlayStation Network.
