In general, you can’t convert Steam Wallet funds to cash or transfer them to another Steam account. The narrow exception is a refund for Wallet funds bought directly from Steam: you must request it within 14 days, and none of the funds can have been used. Community Market sales also stay in your Steam Wallet.
Can you withdraw Steam Wallet funds?
No. Steam does not offer an ordinary withdrawal feature for Wallet balances. Its Steam Wallet FAQ says funds cannot be moved or gifted to another Steam account. Community Market proceeds are likewise credited to the Wallet, not paid out to a bank or third-party account.

That means the official use for a balance that cannot be refunded is to spend it on eligible Steam purchases. Steam gift cards do not change this: they add Steam value for another account or recipient; they do not redeem a balance already in your Wallet.
When can Wallet funds be refunded?
Steam’s Wallet-funds refund exception applies only when you bought the Wallet funds on Steam, submit the request within 14 days, and have not used any of those funds. These are Steam’s published conditions, not a guarantee of approval. Start with Steam Support and select the relevant Wallet-funds purchase to submit a request.

If you have spent any of the purchased Wallet funds, or the purchase falls outside the stated 14-day period, it does not meet the conditions Steam lists for this exception. Market proceeds and other Wallet credits are not the same as funds newly purchased on Steam.
Is a game refund different?
Yes. A refund for a game or other eligible purchase is separate from a refund for Wallet funds. Steam generally states that a title refund request should be made within 14 days of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime. You submit the request through Steam Help by selecting the purchase. Steam reviews requests under its refund policy, so meeting the general limits does not itself promise approval. The request flow lets you choose Steam Wallet credit or, where available, the original payment method.

Steam says approved refunds can take up to 7 days to process; refunds issued as Wallet credit often appear within 24–48 hours. Timing can vary, so check Steam’s Common Refund Questions for current guidance.

Selling an item on the Steam Community Market produces Wallet funds, not withdrawable cash. Steam’s FAQ on Wallet and Community Market funds does not provide a bank or third-party withdrawal route for those proceeds.

Steam also states that “The Steam trading interface does not support the transfer of money in any form.” Its Recommended Trading Practices warn against trades offering Wallet credit. A person offering to pay you outside Steam for an item is not using a Steam-supported cash-out feature; an off-platform deal can expose you to payment disputes, scams, or loss of items.

Why account sales and gift cards are not solutions
- Selling your account: Steam says “Steam account ownership cannot be transferred.” Its guidance on contested account ownership and Subscriber Agreement prohibit account sales. Do not give another person your login credentials to facilitate a supposed sale.
- Buying a gift card: A gift card adds Steam value; it does not turn your existing Wallet balance into money. Steam also says physical retail gift cards are being discontinued, with stores expected to run out of stock by the end of 2026. Availability can vary by retailer and region; see the Wallet FAQ for Steam’s current information.
