Paste the seed into a browser-based seed-map viewer to generate a preview. The seed is the map’s input, not the map image itself.
Find the seed for a world you play

Return to Valheim’s main menu and select the existing world in the world list.

Copy the seed displayed beside the world name. Copy and paste it rather than retyping it: the community guide says capitalization matters. The guide describes the start screen as listing each world with its seed beneath the world name (thevalheim.wiki’s seed-map guide).

Open a seed-map viewer, paste in the seed, and use its generate or open-map control to see the preview. A browser viewer is enough for this; you do not need a mod for a basic map preview.

If it is a dedicated-server world
If you cannot select the world from your own main-menu list, ask the world creator for the seed. A community guide also describes finding it by opening the server world’s .fwl file in a text editor. That file-inspection method is third-party guidance, not an official Iron Gate instruction; do not edit the save file while trying to read it.
Check version compatibility before trusting the preview
World generation can change between Valheim versions, so the same seed may not produce a matching preview in a viewer built for a different version. Check the version label on the viewer and compare it with the version associated with your save. The reviewed pages report Valheim 1.0.16 for Valheim.tools and Valheim 1.0.15 for the seed-map guide dated September 24, 2026; those are the pages’ own labels, not independent confirmation of the game’s current release.

Valheim.tools identifies itself as an unofficial fan database and says worlds made with the same seed are identical on the same game version. The seed-map pages and tools cited here are community resources; no official Iron Gate seed-map viewer or official seed-retrieval instructions are established by these sources.

A browser seed viewer generates a preview from a seed. If you want live-game information instead, the community guide also points to a Live Seed Map mod, which is a more involved option requiring a mod loader. Use that route only if you want an in-game live view and are comfortable installing mods; it is not necessary to find the seed or view a basic generated map.
