There is no single PS4 cheat-code screen or button sequence. The method depends on the game and its edition. For example, in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, enter a code during normal gameplay without pausing, pressing the buttons in order and using the D-pad for directions. Check the instructions and save or achievement warnings for your specific game before entering a code.
Why cheat-code entry varies by game
PS4 does not provide a universal system for entering cheats. Some games accept controller sequences during play; others may use a different method or have no cheat codes. A code list can also be limited to a particular release. Identify both the game and its edition before trying a code, and use instructions that match them.
How to enter codes in GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition on PS4
- Start the game and load into normal gameplay.
- Without pausing, press the code’s buttons in the listed order. Use the D-pad for directional inputs rather than the analog stick.
- Look for an on-screen confirmation. A message usually appears when the sequence is accepted, though this is not guaranteed for every code.
The PS4/PS5 guide for the 2021 Definitive Edition distinguishes its codes from those for older releases and flags effects that are unavailable, disputed, or unverified on current builds. Do not assume a code from another version works in this edition.
Check consequences before using a cheat
GTA V: achievements and saving
For GTA V, Rockstar Games Customer Support says: “Saving is allowed when cheat codes are enabled but achievements are temporarily disabled.” That guidance is specific to GTA V: achievements are disabled while cheats are enabled, but saving is allowed. San Andreas warnings are version-specific
Rockstar’s San Andreas cheat-code guidance warns that cheats can cause malfunctions or crashes and advises against saving after activation. That page describes PlayStation 2-era guidance; it is not a blanket warning for every PS4 game or every release of San Andreas. Check instructions for the version you are actually playing.
If a code does not work
- Confirm that the code is listed for your exact game edition, rather than an older or different release.
- Follow the specified input method and timing. In the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition example, enter the sequence during unpaused gameplay and use the D-pad for directions.
- Watch for an acceptance message, but do not treat the absence of one as definitive proof that every code failed.
- Check the game’s own guidance for effects on saving, trophies or achievements, and missions before trying again.
