First identify which animation is failing: camera-driven avatar movement or facial expressions, a custom animation in a game you are developing, or an animation that fails in only one existing experience. Each has a different fix. Camera animation depends on experience support, camera permission, avatar head compatibility, and device eligibility; custom animations require a published asset, the right rig and Animator, and a working playback or replication setup.
Start by identifying the failure
Check whether the animation is camera-driven, authored or scripted, and whether the issue occurs in one experience or across several. That distinction narrows the likely cause without treating a problem in one game as a device-wide Roblox issue.
- Camera-driven movement or facial expressions: Roblox calls this “Animate Your Avatar.” It is separate from ordinary walking, jumping, emotes, and animations scripted by a game. Use the camera checks below.
- A custom animation in a game you are developing: Check asset publication and ID, the rig and Animator setup, the playback code, and whether the animation should replicate to other players.
- An animation fails in one public experience: Try another experience. Roblox notes that an individual experience can have a bad script or other issue that prevents it from running properly; report an experience-specific problem to its creator. This is a general troubleshooting possibility, not a confirmed diagnosis of every animation failure. Roblox Support: General Connection Problems
- The experience or avatar is not loading properly: Check whether the issue also affects other experiences. Roblox lists firewall issues and slow or inconsistent internet among possible causes of connection problems, but those symptoms alone do not establish that either is causing an animation failure. Fix a custom animation in a game you are developing
Confirm the asset is published and the ID is correct
Roblox says an animation must be published to the cloud to use it in an open game or reuse it in projects. Publishing creates the unique asset ID that scripts reference. Verify that the intended animation has been published and that the script or animation configuration uses its ID; an unpublished asset or wrong ID can prevent the intended animation from appearing. Use the documented Animator playback sequence
For a rig with a Humanoid, the documented sequence is to make sure its Animator is present, create an Animation object with the asset ID, call Animator:LoadAnimation() to get an AnimationTrack, then call AnimationTrack:Play(). For a rig without a Humanoid, use an AnimationController with a child Animator. Roblox documents Animator:LoadAnimation() as the playback workflow. Roblox Creator Hub: Use animations
Check Animator location and replication
The Animator must be in Workspace before LoadAnimation() runs; otherwise, the call cannot retrieve AnimationClipProvider. For animations to replicate, the Animator must first be created on the server and replicated to clients. An Animator created locally will not replicate.

Where to start the animation also depends on the rig:
- Player character: When the
Animatoris under aHumanoidorAnimationControllerin a player’s character, animations started on that player’s client replicate to the server and other clients. - Rig outside a player character: Load and start the animation on the server if it needs to replicate to clients.
These distinctions matter when an animation plays for you but not for other players. If the track never starts, investigate loading and playback instead; if it plays but moves the wrong rig, check the rig and animation content. Roblox Creator Hub: Animator

Check whether the track loads and plays
Roblox’s AnimationTrack API provides IsPlaying, Length, Priority, and playback controls. A Length greater than zero can indicate that the animation has loaded. If IsPlaying is false after the expected call, inspect the code path that reaches Play() and the result of LoadAnimation(). If the track is playing but the motion is wrong or invisible, check whether the animation was authored for a compatible rig and has keyframes for the expected joints. Test with a character in Studio
To check character animation, use Test or Test Here in Roblox Studio; both insert an avatar. Run does not insert an avatar, so it is not the appropriate test for whether a player-character animation plays. Save animation edits in the Animation Editor. Roblox Creator Hub: Create character animations

For a glitchy loop, Roblox advises making the first and last poses the same. If an animated figure passes through the ground or walls, check whether it remains inside the white grid. Roblox Creator Hub: Create character animations

- Check that the experience supports the feature. Open its About page and look at the Communication field. Roblox says this field indicates whether Camera, Microphone, or both are enabled. Camera-driven animation requires a camera-enabled experience; microphone-only support does not indicate that camera movement is available.
- Allow camera access for Roblox. When joining a camera-enabled experience, the device may prompt for permission. If access was previously denied, enable it in the device’s app settings for Roblox.
- Equip a compatible avatar head. The equipped head must support facial animation.
- Check Android device eligibility. Roblox says camera functionality is disabled on Android devices with 3GB RAM or less to improve performance. Roblox Support: How to Use Your Camera to Animate Your Avatar
Check custom avatar and animation-pack issues
If you are creating or uploading an animation pack, Roblox identifies several validation problems that can affect the pack: missing locomotion states, inconsistent parent model names, incorrect loop settings, wrong animation type or sub-animation values, clips not converted to CurveAnimation, spatial-bounds violations, clips longer than 10 seconds, ownership or moderation problems, and insufficient group-upload permissions. For avatar body or facial animation that behaves incorrectly, Roblox Avatar Setup includes Animations tools for testing default animations and inspecting face movement.
