To get a Beckett Black Label, submit an eligible card to Beckett Grading Services (BGS) and have it earn a Pristine 10 with four 10 subgrades: centering, corners, edges, and surface. It is a grading result—not a service level you can select or guarantee. Beckett’s published Pristine 10 centering standards differ between two of its pages, so check the current rubric for your card before submitting.
What a Beckett Black Label means
Beckett assesses four parts of a card: centering, corners, edges, and surface. The Black Label denotes the special top-end result associated with a Pristine 10 overall grade and a 10 in each of those four subgrades. Beckett’s 2014 announcement described the outcome this way: “A card worthy of four ‘10’ subgrades is worthy of a special label.” Beckett’s announcement and its current card-grading page explain the designation.
It is not enough for a card to show an overall 10: Beckett uses half-point overall grades, and the Black Label refers to the quad-10 Pristine result. No submission tier or packaging choice can secure that outcome.
What condition does Beckett require?

- Centering: 50/50 all around on the front and 55/45 or better on the back, according to the current card-grading page.
- Corners: Perfect to the naked eye and virtually flawless under intense scrutiny.
- Edges: Perfect to the naked eye and virtually flawless under intense scrutiny.
- Surface: No print spots; flawless color; no registration or focus imperfections, scratches, or metallic print lines.
There is a published discrepancy on back centering: Beckett’s separate grading-scale page gives 60/40 or better for Pristine 10, while the current card-grading page says 55/45 or better. The pages do not reconcile the figures. Confirm the applicable standard with Beckett rather than assuming one threshold applies to every card or submission.
How to submit a card
- Check eligibility and live instructions. Review Beckett’s card-grading page for accepted card types, available service levels, fees, and submission requirements.
- Choose an available service. Start a card-grading submission and select a service level Beckett currently offers. The tier affects quoted cost and turnaround, not the card’s condition or its chance of a Black Label.
- Protect the card as instructed. Beckett’s submission instructions specify an oversized 3.25-by-5-inch semi-rigid holder, such as a Card Saver I, and recommend a penny sleeve.
- Ship it according to the live submission directions. Use the address and requirements shown by Beckett. Beckett warns that shipments addressed incorrectly are not covered by turnaround-time guarantees.
- Allow Beckett to authenticate and grade it. Its grading process includes checks for trimming, doctoring, and alteration. Beckett determines the final grades from its evaluation.

Beckett’s US grading page displayed the following figures when checked on October 8, 2026. These are per-card prices and published turnaround estimates from that date, not guaranteed delivery dates; some options were marked sold out or “notify me.” Fees, availability, and estimates can change, so verify the live page before submitting.

These are timing and cost options only. Beckett does not publish a Black Label success rate in the cited grading materials, so the figures do not establish a submitter’s odds of receiving one.
What preparation can—and cannot—change
Careful handling and the prescribed holder help protect a card during shipping and meet Beckett’s packaging instructions. They cannot repair centering, corners, edges, print flaws, scratches, or other characteristics Beckett assesses. The grading rubric does not offer a guaranteed preparation method for earning a Black Label.

Does the Black Label apply to every card era?
Beckett’s 2014 Black Label announcement described the designation as applying to modern cards and said it was not valid for BVG cards from 1980 and older. That is historical scope information, not confirmation of Beckett’s current eligibility policy. For a vintage card or one whose category is unclear, ask Beckett to confirm eligibility and the currently applicable grading standard before sending it.
