For an animation you already published, open Creator Dashboard > Development Items > Animations, select it, then choose Copy Asset ID from the three-dot menu. That ID is the asset reference you put in an Animation object’s AnimationId property.
Get the ID for an animation you just made
- Open the animation in Roblox Studio’s Animation Editor.
- Click the ellipsis menu in the editor controls and choose Publish to Roblox.
- Complete the applicable asset configuration fields and submit the upload.
- When the upload flow displays the resulting ID, click its copy icon. Publishing stores the animation in the cloud and creates the asset ID. Roblox’s Animation Editor tutorial also explains that you can later find and edit the upload in Creator Dashboard under Development Items > Animations.
Copy the ID for an animation already published
- Open Creator Dashboard and go to Development Items > Animations.
- Select the animation to open its configuration page.
- Open the three-dot menu and choose Copy Asset ID. Roblox places this option in the page’s left navigation. The Animation Editor tutorial describes the dashboard route.
A Roblox lesson also describes opening Animations from the Create page and copying the ID from the browser URL. Because interface layouts can change, use Copy Asset ID when that command is available. Roblox’s animation lesson covers the alternate route.
Use the ID in an experience
The ID identifies the animation asset; it does not by itself make the animation play. Create an Animation instance, assign the ID to AnimationId, load it through an Animator to get an AnimationTrack, and play the track. Roblox’s animation use guide documents this workflow.
Use an animation asset intended for your purpose. A catalog animation ID may be appropriate when replacing a default character animation, but do not assume every animation asset can be used in every experience.

Check creator ownership and access
Publishing for a group-owned game
If the experience is group-owned, select the group in the publishing dialog’s Creator field. Roblox documents this choice in its Animation Editor documentation.
When an ID does not work
Roblox says imported assets are private by default, and an asset’s privacy settings determine who can use it in experiences. Check the animation’s ownership and access settings if a copied ID fails in the intended experience; knowing the ID alone does not grant permission. Roblox’s asset privacy documentation explains the access model.

If the animation ID is right but playback still fails
Replication depends on where the Animator is and where the animation is loaded and started. Roblox says animations started on a player’s client replicate when the Animator is under that player’s character. Outside a player character, load and start the animation on the server. An Animator created locally does not replicate animation tracks. See Roblox’s animation replication guidance.
