How Do You Gift Someone on Fortnite Without 2FA?

Fortnite requires sender-side 2FA for in-game gifts. Here’s how to enable it, what else gifting requires, and when a gift card is the practical alternative.

You can’t send a Fortnite in-game gift without enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on the sender’s Epic account. Epic requires 2FA for gifting. If you can’t enable it, a Fortnite gift card is an alternative: the recipient redeems it to their Epic account balance, rather than receiving a specific cosmetic directly.

How to send a Fortnite gift after enabling 2FA

  1. Sign in to your Epic Games account and open Password and security.

  2. Under Two-Factor Authentication, select Set up for an available method. Epic offers verification by email, SMS, or an authenticator app; the methods shown may vary by account.

  3. Enter the verification code to finish enabling 2FA. Epic’s guide has the current setup steps: enable two-factor authentication on your Epic account.

    Fortnite eGift Card
    • Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
    • Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
    • If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
    • Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
    • Redemption: Online
  4. In Fortnite, open the Item Shop, choose an eligible item, select GIFT, select or enter the recipient’s Epic display name, and confirm. Epic recommends checking the display name so the gift goes to the intended player.

Other requirements and limits

  • The sender must be at least level 2, and the recipient must have been on the sender’s Friends list for at least two days.

    Fortnite Physical Gift Card
    • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
    • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
    • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
    • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
    • Redemption: Online
  • Not every purchase is giftable. Epic excludes V-Bucks, Battle Pass levels, items not currently in the Item Shop, event passes, and some offers and bundles. Pass gifting also turns off toward the end of a season.

What to do if the gift option is missing

Check that 2FA is enabled and that the level and friendship requirements are met. For a missing Battle Pass gift option, Epic says changing the 2FA method sometimes resolves the issue; Pass gifting may also be unavailable near the end of a season. See Epic’s Battle Pass gifting troubleshooting steps.

Gift card alternative when you can’t enable 2FA

Epic Fortnite gift cards are available online and in physical stores. The recipient redeems the card to the Epic account they intend to use, adding funds that can go toward Fortnite V-Bucks, Fortnite Crew, packs, or other purchases through Epic’s payment system. It provides account balance, not a selected cosmetic delivered through Fortnite’s gifting feature. See Epic’s Fortnite gift card information.

Match the card’s currency to the recipient’s Epic account balance currency, and check that the card is available in the recipient’s region before buying. Epic says its newer Fortnite gift cards are replacing V-Bucks cards; older V-Bucks cards may still be available in some regions during the transition and redeem for V-Bucks only. Availability details are on Epic’s gift card announcement.
