You can’t tame the crab from Minecraft’s 2023 Mob Vote in vanilla Minecraft: it was a proposed mob, and the armadillo won the vote. Mojang’s crab proposal describes its mangrove-swamp habitat and a claw that could help players place blocks farther away, but it gives no taming method. A community-made Java Edition mod offers a separate, modded way to encounter a crab.
Can you tame a crab in vanilla Minecraft?
No. Mojang presented the crab as a candidate in the 2023 Mob Vote, not as an existing vanilla mob. Its proposal describes a crab that would hide among the vines in mangrove swamps and a special claw that could let players place blocks from farther away. It does not say the crab could be tamed or name a taming item. Read Mojang’s crab proposal.
Why isn’t the crab in the game?
The crab was one of three creatures competing to join Minecraft in the 2023 vote. Mojang’s recap says the armadillo received the most community votes and would be the next mob to join the game; the crab did not win. The recap does not state a vote count in the material cited here. Can you find a crab with a mod?
A community-created “Mob Vote 2023 – Crab” mod listing is available for Java Edition on Modrinth. That is separate from vanilla Minecraft, and the listing alone does not establish a particular taming mechanic. Before installing, check the mod page for its supported Minecraft version, required mod loader, and stated crab behavior: Mob Vote 2023 – Crab on Modrinth.
