In inZOI, karma has been described in two different ways. The official Help Center’s March 2025 explanation tied it to a Zoi’s lifetime actions and evaluated it after death, with bad karma affecting the living world. In January 2026, developer Kjun outlined a different intended direction: hidden karma, separate from Reputation, that could influence luck and event chances. Those newer mechanics were delayed, and official sources do not confirm the exact karma rules live in the October 2026 build.
How karma worked in the earlier official explanation
The inZOI Help Center article “What is Karma Score?”, updated March 28, 2025, described karma as a score shaped by a Zoi’s actions over its life. It contrasted good and bad deeds, but did not specify an action-by-action scoring formula.

Under that documented model, karma was evaluated after a Zoi died. If bad deeds outweighed good ones, the Zoi received a bad karma rating and remained in the world as a soul, which could affect living Zois. The Help Center also said each city had a population limit: too many souls could prevent players from creating new Zois. It did not state a numerical capacity.
How that compares with the planned redesign
In a January 23, 2026 developer post, Kjun described a planned direction that differs from the Help Center’s earlier account. Karma was intended to accumulate invisibly, remain distinct from visible Reputation, and influence luck or the likelihood of certain events. This was development intent, not confirmation that those effects were implemented.

| Aspect | Earlier Help Center description (March 2025) | Later intended direction (January 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| When or how it is assessed | Lifetime actions inform a score evaluated after death. | Accumulation was described as hidden; no finalized formula was given. |
| Visibility | The article discusses a karma score and post-death rating. | Intended to accumulate invisibly. |
| Relationship to Reputation | Not specified in the article. | Described as separate: karma reflects personal choices and life path, while Reputation concerns how society sees the Zoi. |
| Stated effects | A bad rating could leave a soul that affects living Zois; excess souls could reach the city population limit. | Intended to affect luck or the probability of some events. The January post did not confirm exact effects or probabilities. |
Kjun described the distinction this way: “Karma, on the other hand, is meant to reflect the player’s personal actions and the path they’ve taken in life.” The phrase “is meant to” signals an intended design, not a guarantee about the current build. The January post also considered player feedback about having multiple independent dimensions, but did not establish that proposal as implemented. See the official January 2026 development post.

The status update is important: in September 2026, Kjun said the karma improvements previously mentioned for October had been delayed and were being developed alongside the Values system as part of work on personality systems. The post gave no replacement release date or finalized formula. See the September 2026 update.
Accordingly, the earlier Help Center article is useful for understanding the historical description, but it should not be treated as a verified specification of the October 2026 build. The newer ideas about invisible accumulation, luck, and event probabilities should likewise be treated as plans until an official update confirms their implementation.
What players cannot reliably calculate
Official sources do not provide a current list of actions that raise or lower karma, the weight assigned to any action, a score range, a population cap, or a probability of a karma-related event. There is no reliable basis in those sources for a step-by-step strategy to target a particular karma outcome.

That is a historical adjustment, not evidence that the same problem persists. The team also discussed crime-related content and Zois being caught and jailed in an earlier update; that plan does not establish a current karma rule or crime-system specification. See the gameplay update notes and Kjun’s Letter: Upcoming Updates.
Practical takeaway
If you are trying to understand karma while playing, distinguish the old documented rules from the redesign under development. The Help Center’s post-death score, souls, and city-capacity consequences belong to its March 2025 description. The hidden luck-and-events model was a later intention, and the September 2026 update said its improvements were delayed. Until a subsequent official update clarifies the live system, avoid assuming that a particular action changes karma or that a specific effect will follow.
