Asian Games golf is a multi-round stroke-play competition: players’ scores are added across the rounds, and the lowest total wins the individual event. At Hangzhou 2022, staged in 2023, men and women each competed for individual and team medals, making four golf gold medals in all. Entry rules and team scoring can vary by edition, so the relevant Games’ technical regulations determine the details.
How does the Asian Games golf competition work?
In stroke play, each competitor’s strokes are counted over the course of a round, then added across the scheduled rounds. The player with the fewest strokes over the full competition wins the individual event. The Hangzhou 2022 event overview described golf as stroke play and scheduled four days of competition at West Lake International Golf Course, from September 28 to October 1, 2023. The Games kept the “2022” name despite being held in 2023. Hangzhou 2022 golf overview and schedule

Individual and team events
Individual medals are determined by each player’s cumulative score. A team competition is a separate medal event, but its score is calculated under the edition’s technical rules. The Hangzhou overview confirms that team medals were contested, but does not state which players’ scores counted or how they were combined. Those details should not be assumed; consult the technical handbook for the specific Games.
Rounds, ties and playing conditions
The Hangzhou schedule listed four rounds for both men and women. A different edition’s regulations may specify how ties are broken or what happens if weather interrupts play. For example, the OCA’s regulations for the 2018 Asian Games called for four 18-hole stroke-play rounds and a hole-by-hole playoff for ties in the top three individual places. Those are 2018 rules, not a universal rule for every Asian Games. The same document also included a provision for determining standings if a round could not be held; do not apply that provision to another edition without checking its own regulations. Who is eligible to play in the Asian Games golf competition?
Eligibility is governed by the rules for that edition and the selection process of the athlete’s National Olympic Committee (NOC). Being a golfer, even a highly ranked one, does not by itself guarantee entry: athletes must be selected and nominated through their national or territory process and meet the Games’ participation requirements.
Professionals and Hangzhou 2022
Hangzhou’s organizing committee reported that professionals were allowed to compete in the Asian Games golf event for the first time at that edition. This was a change from earlier editions, but it did not mean that any professional could enter without selection. The committee announced China’s men’s roster as Wu Ashun, Chen Guxin and Ding Wenyi, and its women’s roster as Lin Xiyu, Yin Ruoning and Liu Yu. These were China’s selected entrants, not the total event quota or a universal roster size. Hangzhou organizing committee’s China squad announcement, July 7, 2023

What to check for another edition
For a future Games, check its technical handbook and relevant NOC selection rules for participation limits, age or status conditions, substitutions and team scoring. The Hangzhou sources cited here do not establish those requirements for a later edition.

That is the medal program for the Hangzhou edition; check the official program for another Games rather than assuming it is unchanged.
