In Pokémon Scarlet, Covert Cloak is a held item that stops its holder from being affected by additional effects attached to an opponent’s damaging moves. It does not block status moves such as Thunder Wave or Leech Seed. You can buy one at the Levincia Delibird Presents for ₽20,000.
What Covert Cloak blocks
Covert Cloak protects the Pokémon holding it from additional effects of other Pokémon’s damaging moves. The official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website describes the item as preventing the holder from receiving additional effects from an opponent’s moves; Bulbapedia’s mechanics entry clarifies that this applies to damaging moves.
- A damaging move’s chance to burn the holder, such as Flamethrower’s burn effect.
- A damaging move’s flinch effect, such as Fake Out’s flinch.
The cloak does not prevent the move’s damage itself. It protects against the extra effect, not the attack.
What Covert Cloak does not block
Covert Cloak is not a general shield against status conditions. It does not stop status moves such as Thunder Wave or Leech Seed, because those effects come from status moves rather than being additional effects attached to damaging moves.

Covert Cloak is a held item for a Pokémon, not clothing for the player. Its in-game description, reproduced by Bulbapedia, reads: “An item to be held by a Pokémon. This hooded cloak conceals the holder, tricking the eyes of its enemies and protecting it from the additional effects of moves.”
