In Pokémon LeafGreen, the early-game Day Care is on Route 5, south of Cerulean City. Leave one Pokémon there and keep walking: it gains experience as you take steps. The trade-off is that it can learn level-up moves without you choosing which move to replace, so check its moves when you collect it.
Where is the Day Care in LeafGreen?
The Day Care used during the main Kanto adventure is on Route 5, south of Cerulean City. It accepts one Pokémon for passive leveling. StrategyWiki’s FireRed and LeafGreen Route 5 guide describes the location and its one-Pokémon service.
How does leveling work?
After depositing a Pokémon with the attendant, continue walking in the game. The Pokémon earns experience as your character takes steps, and can gain levels while you travel. StrategyWiki describes the step-based experience, while Game8’s Day Care guide covers gaining levels and learning moves. No specific experience rate or fee is established by these references.
Can a Pokémon forget moves in Day Care?
Yes. A Pokémon in Day Care can learn level-up moves, and you do not choose the move replacement at the moment it learns one. If it already knows four moves, a newly learned move can displace an older move. This follows the general Day Care move-learning mechanics described by Bulbapedia; Game8 also warns that move replacement can happen without player control.

When you collect the Pokémon, review its moves. If preserving a particular move or controlling each replacement matters, train it through battles instead of relying on Day Care.
Does a Pokémon evolve while it is deposited?
The cited guides establish that deposited Pokémon gain experience and may learn moves, but they do not establish that a Pokémon evolves while it remains in Day Care. Treat evolution as a separate step: collect the Pokémon and check whether it is ready to evolve.

Is there another Day Care later in the game?
A LeafGreen-specific secondary guide describes a later facility on Four Island that accepts two Pokémon and supports breeding. That is distinct from the Route 5 service used for early passive leveling; the cited material does not verify the precise requirements for reaching the Four Island facility. See the LeafGreen Wiki Team’s Four Island guide for its account of that location.

Day Care is useful when you want a Pokémon to gain experience while you travel, but manual training gives you control over its battles and move choices. Choose based on whether convenience or moveset control matters more for that Pokémon.
