Everyone manages their own faction during the same campaign turn, and players can make or break alliances, join battles on either side, and hand selected units to an ally during a friendly battle. Which campaign you choose—and which factions you can use—depends on the scenario and each player’s owned content.
How co-op turns and battles work
SEGA Support says multiplayer campaigns support up to eight players, with all player turns taken simultaneously rather than one player waiting for the next to finish. Each player manages a separate faction on the shared campaign map during that turn window. The official FAQ describes simultaneous turns as a core multiplayer rule; it does not spell out every current lobby step or how every decision is synchronized.
Players can make and break alliances. When one player starts a battle, other players may join either the initiating army or the opposing army. In a battle fought alongside a teammate, the player who initiated it can give an ally control of selected units, letting them take part directly.
Which co-op campaign should you choose?
SEGA’s FAQ documents three named campaign scenarios. The two larger choices allow up to eight players; the compact Kislev campaign is limited to three.

| Scenario | Maximum players | Style and focus |
|---|---|---|
| Realm of Chaos | Up to eight | The full narrative campaign, described by SEGA as identical to its single-player version. Build an empire, enter the Chaos realms, collect four Daemon Prince souls, face Be’lakor, and decide Ursun’s fate. |
| Darkness & Disharmony | Up to eight | A free-for-all sandbox about a Daemonic invasion of Grand Cathay and control of key settlements. SEGA lists Grand Cathay, the Ogre Kingdoms, and the four Chaos Daemon races as playable; Kislev and the Daemon Prince do not feature in this scenario. |
| Something Rotten in Kislev | Up to three | A compact, Kislev-centered co-op campaign designed to be completed in one session. |
These are the scenario names and descriptions in SEGA’s campaign FAQ. Check the in-game campaign menu for current availability or naming, since a later patch may change it.
Can you play Immortal Empires co-op?
Yes. SEGA’s Immortal Empires guide, updated June 18, 2026, says owning Total War: WARHAMMER III gives access to Immortal Empires and the base races and Lords included with that game. Older Total War: WARHAMMER games and their DLC are not required just to enter the Immortal Empires campaign.

Campaign access and faction access are separate. Earlier games and DLC unlock additional playable races and Lords, so what each friend has bought affects which factions that person can select. Content must be owned on the same client used to play—Steam, Epic, or Microsoft/Game Pass. SEGA gives Vampire Coast as an example of a faction that can be unlocked through the relevant WARHAMMER II DLC without owning the WARHAMMER II base game. Compare everyone’s owned content before settling on factions; you do not all need to own the entire trilogy just to play Immortal Empires together.

SEGA lists Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and direct Creative Assembly purchase routes, and says physical copies are available in most territories. Its FAQ said cross-store multiplayer was intended at launch. In April 2026, Creative Assembly said a version-number adjustment on Steam and Epic was made to maintain crossplay compatibility with other platforms; the same notice described a temporary Microsoft Store rollout delay. That history is not a guarantee that every cross-store combination is working at every moment.

If friends on different stores cannot connect, first check that everyone has compatible, current game versions, then consult Creative Assembly’s latest official patch notices. The official PC manual says multiplayer requires broadband and that dial-up is unsuitable; it does not specify a minimum bandwidth or latency figure.
