Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawns are AI-controlled companions, not online co-op partners. You create one persistent Main Pawn, hire support Pawns to round out a party of up to four characters, and guide them with commands whose effects change with the situation. When connected, your Main Pawn can be shared with other players asynchronously; you can hire and rate their Pawns in return.
How the Main Pawn and hired Pawns fit into your party
Your Main Pawn is your continuing companion. Support Pawns are hired party members who can fill gaps in your Arisen’s vocation and the Main Pawn’s capabilities. A party can include up to four characters, and you can play offline; network access adds Pawn sharing, not live multiplayer. Capcom’s FAQ describes the online features and offline party option.

Choose companions around the work you need done rather than assuming there is one best lineup. Capcom’s manual gives examples of vocation roles: Fighters handle close combat with sword and shield, Mages offer healing, enchantments, and ranged magic, Archers attack from a distance, and Thieves specialize in fast close combat. What Pawn inclinations change
An inclination guides a Pawn’s tendencies, including behavior, speech, and the actions they are likely to take. It is not a guaranteed script or a direct damage modifier, and it does not change a Pawn’s loyalty to the Arisen. Capcom describes four inclinations:

These are behavioral tendencies, so an inclination should inform your expectations rather than replace observing how a Pawn acts. Capcom’s manual explains inclinations.
Changing your Main Pawn’s inclination
Capcom’s FAQ says you can change the Main Pawn’s inclination using an Art of Metamorphosis, available at the Pawn Guild, or by speaking with the Pawn at a campsite while carrying the relevant Rift Incense. See Capcom’s FAQ for the stated methods.

What each Pawn command does
Commands are context-sensitive directions, not a complete manual override of Pawn behavior. A command can have different practical effects in combat and while exploring:

Because the response depends on the situation, the official manual recommends learning commands by watching how Pawns respond in different circumstances. Capcom’s command guide lists their effects.

How Pawn quests and badges work
A Pawn quest lets you assign your Main Pawn a task to pursue beyond the Rift, then offer a reward to the Arisen who hires them. Set the task and reward at a Riftstone. A task can ask another player to retrieve an item; the reward can be a specific item or gold. Items offered as rewards are removed from your inventory, and gold rewards are deducted from your funds.
Capcom presents Pawn quests as a way to help obtain items and Pawn badges, but setting a reward does not guarantee another player will hire your Pawn or complete the task. To check the current undertaking, open the Pause Menu’s Status screen and select the Pawn section. The official manual’s Pawn quest guide covers task setup and rewards.

What online Pawn sharing does—and does not—include
Online features let you hire Pawns shared by friends or other players, while other players can hire and rate your Main Pawn. You can also leave a gift with a support Pawn when dismissing it. This is asynchronous sharing: Capcom says Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not support online multiplayer, and a Pawn can only be hired by someone playing on the same platform.
If you started the game offline, Capcom says Network Features may need to be turned on under System > Options > Network. To make an updated Main Pawn available to others, rest at an inn while connected to the network. The updated information may take time to appear. What to do when a Pawn is down or forfeited
At zero Health, a Pawn becomes immobile and cannot recover without help. Approach and touch an immobile Pawn to revive them; if multiple Pawns are down nearby, they can be revived at once. A revived Pawn’s maximum Health is set to the Arisen’s remaining Health.
If an immobile Pawn is left for too long, they become forfeit and leave the party. If that happens to your Main Pawn, touch a Riftstone to bring them back. Capcom’s manual explains downed and forfeited Pawns.
