FC 26 Champions matchmaking uses your location, your current Champions Form, and your platform/cross-play settings. It does not have a published rule matching players by squad rating or Rivals division. During a Finals run, Form starts at 0, rises by 1 for every win and falls by 1 for every loss. Keep that matchmaking number separate from Champions Qualification Points (CQP), Finals rank tiers, Rivals Rank and Elite Skill Rating.
FC 26 also changed qualification: Champions Play-Offs were removed. Qualification points can be earned from Division 7, and you auto-qualify at Division 6 once you hold enough points. Champions Finals is a 15-match competition with 15 rank tiers, and every win contributes to rewards.

How does FC 26 Champions matchmaking work?
EA’s current Champions guide lists three matchmaking considerations:
- Location: your location determines the EA SPORTS FC Game Data Center used for the match.
- Current Form: your running win-loss record in the current Champions competition.
- Platform and cross-play settings: whether you can be matched across supported platforms in your platform generation group.
EA says players are matched with others who have similar Form. It does not publish an exact Form range, promise identical records, or explain how the search widens when an opponent is scarce. Therefore, seeing an opponent with a different visible record does not by itself prove that matchmaking ignored Form: “similar” is qualitative, and location and platform constraints also apply.

What Form means
Form is a competition-specific running tally, not a hidden lifetime skill rating. It starts at zero when the current competition begins. Each result changes it by one:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Result | Form change |
|---|---|
| Win | +1 |
| Loss | −1 |
For EA’s example sequence W/L/L/W/W, the running values are +1, 0, −1, 0 and +1, leaving the player at Form +1. A new competition has its own run; Form is not carried indefinitely from one weekend or event to the next.
Why your record may not match an opponent’s
EA has not stated that both players must have the same number of wins, the same number of games played or an identical Form value. A different-looking record can result from the “similar Form” rule being combined with Game Data Center and cross-play constraints. Treat exact opponent-record matching as an assumption, not an EA guarantee.

What changed in FC 26 qualification?
FC 26 removed Champions Play-Offs. The launch update says: “More Accessible: Champions Playoffs are removed, Champions Qualification Points can now be earned from Division 7, and you’ll auto-qualify at Division 6 once you have enough points.” This is the FC 26 launch-era rule and should not be confused with older versions that required a Play-Offs run.
The pre-launch FUT deep dive announced direct qualification but left the exact division for later. The subsequent FC 26 Launch Update supplies the specific Division 7 and Division 6 details. If an older guide tells you to enter Play-Offs, it is describing a previous version.

How to earn and check Champions Qualification Points
EA Help says CQP can be earned in both Rivals and Squad Battles. Higher Rivals divisions earn points faster. The exact points awarded by each activity and the amount required for a particular entry are not given in the public pages, so use the live competition screen rather than an old community table.
- Open Ultimate Team.
- Select Play.
- Open Core Modes.
- Select Champions.
- Check your CQP balance and the current qualification or entry progress shown on that screen.
The general Champions Help page is also the place EA directs players for current competition information. Menus and season rules can change, so the in-game display is authoritative for your account’s current requirement.
How many matches are in Champions Finals?
Champions Finals has 15 matches. FC 26 expanded the Finals rank structure from 10 tiers to 15. Every win counts toward rewards, with milestone tiers at 12 wins and 14 wins, according to the launch update.

| Champions Finals element | FC 26 rule |
|---|---|
| Matches in the event | 15 |
| Rank tiers | 15, expanded from 10 |
| Reward progression | Every win counts |
| Named milestones | 12 wins and 14 wins |
The 15-match figure comes from EA’s current Help page, while the tier and milestone changes come from the FC 26 Launch Update. EA’s pages do not provide a complete, permanent reward table in the material cited here. Check the Finals screen for the rewards attached to your current season and tier.
CQP, Form and “rank points” are different systems
Players often call several different numbers “rank points.” Their purposes and locations are separate:
| System | Purpose | Where it applies | How it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Champions Qualification Points (CQP) | Helps you enter Champions | Earned through Rivals and Squad Battles; displayed in Champions | Activity-specific points; exact current award table is not stated |
| Champions Form | Influences Champions matchmaking | Your current Champions competition | Starts at 0; win +1, loss −1 |
| Champions Finals rank tiers | Tracks Finals reward progression | 15-match Finals event | Wins advance the run; FC 26 has 15 tiers and milestones at 12 and 14 wins |
| Rivals Rank and Division | Tracks Rivals ladder progress | Rivals Divisions 10 through 1 | Moves through the Rivals ladder under Rivals rules |
| Rivals Elite Skill Rating | Measures performance for Elite matchmaking | Rivals Elite only | Changes with result and opponent rating |
Conflating these numbers leads to incorrect advice. CQP gets you toward entry; Form helps select a Champions opponent; Finals tiers determine reward progression; Rivals Rank and Elite Skill Rating belong to a different mode.
How Rivals ratings differ from Champions rules
EA’s separate Ultimate Team Rivals guide says standard Rivals Divisions 10–1 use Rank as a matchmaking input. Elite uses Skill Rating instead. Players entering Elite start with a default Skill Rating of 500, and EA treats ratings of 2200 or higher as 2200 for matchmaking purposes.
Those values describe Rivals, not Champions. They should not be substituted for Champions Form, and a Rivals division is not listed by EA as a Champions matchmaking variable. Your Rivals results can still matter indirectly because Rivals is one way to earn CQP, and the FC 26 qualification rule begins at Division 7 with automatic qualification at Division 6 when enough points are held.

Cross-play and platform groups
Cross-play must be enabled for a Champions match to use the supported cross-platform pool. EA groups platforms by generation:
| Platform group | Platforms listed by EA |
|---|---|
| Older generation | PlayStation 4 and Xbox One |
| Current generation | PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC |
| No Champions cross-play | Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 |
Changing the cross-play setting changes which supported players can enter your search pool. It does not change your Form or grant a different rank. If you cannot find a match, verify the setting in the game’s online or matchmaking options, then confirm that your platform belongs to the intended generation group. Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 do not use cross-play for Champions under EA’s stated rules.
A practical way to read your Champions numbers
Before entering Finals
- Open the Champions tile and confirm your CQP balance and qualification status.
- Check the current season’s entry requirement and rewards on the live screen; do not rely on a legacy Play-Offs guide or an unverified points chart.
- Confirm cross-play and platform settings before searching.
During a Finals run
- Think of each result as a Form adjustment: +1 for a win or −1 for a loss.
- Do not treat Form as your permanent ability score or as your Finals rank tier.
- Use the Finals progress panel to see how wins map to the current 15-tier reward structure.
When comparing two players
- Ask which number is being compared: CQP, Form, Finals tier, Rivals Rank or Elite Skill Rating.
- Check whether the players are in the same mode and competition run.
- Do not infer an official matchmaking rule from squad value, squad rating or one opponent’s record; EA has not listed those as Champions inputs.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“Champions still has Play-Offs.”
That is an older-version description. FC 26 removed Play-Offs and introduced direct qualification through CQP and the Division 7/Division 6 rule described in the launch update.
“My CQP is my matchmaking rating.”
CQP is entry progress. Matchmaking uses current Form along with location and platform/cross-play settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems“A loss permanently damages my account rating.”
A loss subtracts one from the current competition’s Form. EA describes Form as a running record for that competition, not a lifetime rating.
Best Value
“Rivals Elite’s 500 or 2200 values apply to Champions.”
Those are Rivals Elite Skill Rating rules. Champions uses the separate Form system.
“There must be an exact Form gap.”
EA says similar Form, but does not publish a numeric tolerance or promise equal records. Avoid presenting an exact range as fact.
What EA has not specified publicly
Several details are intentionally absent from the public rules cited here:
- The exact allowable Form difference between two Champions players.
- How quickly the search expands when a similarly formed opponent is unavailable.
- A complete CQP award table for every Rivals or Squad Battles activity.
- The exact CQP threshold required for every current entry screen or season.
- A permanent reward table covering all 15 Finals tiers.
For these values, use the current in-game Champions screen and season-specific information. A community spreadsheet may be outdated when a season or ruleset changes; it cannot override the values shown for your account.
