Fishing hotspots are marked pools that improve your chance of catching rare or legendary fish. Their star rating signals the trade-off: higher-tier hotspots offer better rarity chances but contain fewer fish and take longer to respawn. To confirm a cast is benefiting from one, look for the in-game message “Landed in Hotspot!”
This guide reflects Amazon Games’ published mechanics and the service status reported on October 7, 2026. New World: Aeternum is scheduled to shut down on January 31, 2027.

What do hotspot stars mean?
Amazon Games’ New World Fishing Guide describes three hotspot tiers. Higher tiers improve the chance of rare and legendary catches, but are less available because they have fewer fish and longer respawn times.

The guide does not publish exact catch odds, respawn durations, or a current authoritative count of hotspots, so the tiers are best used as a relative guide rather than a promise of a particular fish or wait time.

How do you find a hotspot?
Some hotspots are visible on the map; others become discoverable as your Fishing Skill increases. On the map, a yellow hexagon marks a trackable hotspot. Once discovered, the map shows a fish icon and the hotspot’s rarity. Amazon Games does not provide current Fishing Skill thresholds for each discovery or a complete current location list in its guide.
At the water, look for the hotspot’s circular pool, marked by ripples and fish jumping. A hotspot may be temporarily empty if another player has fished it recently. The pool remains within its marked map hexagon, so you can return later rather than assuming the location has moved.

How can you tell whether your cast landed in the hotspot?
Check the on-screen text after casting. The benefit applies when the game displays “Landed in Hotspot!” If it does not, the cast missed the hotspot pool or landed in the wrong area. Reposition and cast again until the confirmation appears; being near a marked hexagon is not by itself confirmation.
Do hotspots improve your chances of better fish?
Yes, according to the official guide: higher-tier hotspots provide greater chances of rare and legendary catches. The original purpose was also to increase bite speed and fish rarity, as described in Amazon Games’ November alpha update. That historical description is not a current numerical guarantee, and the guide does not provide exact odds for any tier.

Hotspots are only one part of your setup. Amazon Games’ guide says bait can reduce time to a bite and divides bait by freshwater or saltwater use and by whether you are pursuing larger or rarer fish. Match bait to the water and your goal; no bait-and-hotspot combination guarantees a particular catch.
Do fishing poles and later updates affect the advice?
Fishing poles are in-game tools obtainable through crafting, trading posts, drops, and quest rewards. Amazon Games’ July 19, 2022 guide reports that pole tiers affect casting distance, tension recovery, and fish-rarity chance. It gives Tier I and Tier V as follows:

These are figures reported in the 2022 guide, not independently verified current values. Amazon Games’ Season Two release notes later documented fishing changes, including tension-recovery buffs for Tier 3–5 poles and new home territories for legendary fish. That means older equipment statistics and fish-location details may not describe the current balance or locations.

As of Amazon Games’ server-status update on October 7, 2026, the service still showed active worlds. The publisher’s January 15, 2026 notice says New World: Aeternum has been delisted and is no longer available for purchase, but existing owners can continue playing until the servers go offline permanently on January 31, 2027.
