Baby villagers take 20 minutes to become adults. Keep the villager in an active, loaded area while that time passes; being in a boat or minecart does not normally stop the timer.
How long does a baby villager take to grow up?
A baby villager becomes an adult after 20 minutes, according to the Minecraft Wiki’s Villager page. The older Villager (old) page specifies that the baby must remain within render distance during that period. Keep the villager nearby in an area that remains active so the wait does not appear to take longer.
Do boats or minecarts affect the timer?
No. The current Villager reference says normal maturation continues when a baby villager is in a boat or minecart.
Can a villager fail to grow up?
Yes. The Villager reference identifies villagers with no AI as an exception: they do not grow up. For an ordinary baby villager, allow 20 minutes in an active area.
