Allow roughly 35–45 hours for a run with some or most side content, or 50 hours or more for a completionist attempt. There is a point of no return: finish the quests and exploration you care about before entering The Garden during “Our Dreams Divide Us Still,” and keep a separate save beforehand.
How long does Avowed take to beat?
GameSpot’s estimates vary by play style. Treat them as planning ranges, not guaranteed completion times: pace, exploration, and what counts as “complete” all affect the total.

GameSpot estimates that most or all side quests can add 15–25 hours; map exploration and points of interest add more. These are the publication’s estimates, not the result of a controlled playtest. A separate Epic Dope guide gives a wider 12–25-hour range for the main quest, around 30 hours for a typical mix of side quests and exploration, and 40–50+ hours for completionists. Where is Avowed’s point of no return?
The cutoff comes during the main quest “Our Dreams Divide Us Still,” immediately before you enter The Garden, according to Epic Dope’s guide. Once you advance into the endgame, you cannot return to finish remaining side quests or collect missed Totems, and the game does not offer free roaming after the main story, as Windows Central reports.

Spoiler-light advice: Before entering The Garden, finish any optional quests or exploration you still want to do, then create a separate save. That save gives you a fallback if you decide you want to revisit the world before completing the story.
Can you miss side content before the final cutoff?
Yes. Some content is missable before the final point of no return, so a single last-minute cleanup is not a guarantee that every optional quest will still be available. In a January 22, 2024 Xbox Wire feature, Game Director Carrie Patel discusses Avowed’s player-focused approach to role-playing, and the article describes its featured side quest as “entirely discoverable,” and therefore “entirely missable.” That example confirms that missable quests exist; it is not a complete list of all quests or their triggers.

Obsidian’s anniversary update says New Game Plus becomes available after completing the main story. For players whose completion save predates the mode, Obsidian says to load a point-of-no-return save or later and beat the game to create a proper New Game Plus save. New Game Plus offers another playthrough; it does not reopen the completed story run for missed side quests or exploration.
