Expect roughly 40–50 hours for a story-first playthrough of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi estimated about 40 hours for main progression; GameSpot’s own play estimate was closer to 50 hours while skipping most optional content. Add selected side activities and the total can reach about 65 hours, while completionist goals can take around 100 hours or more.
How long does it take to beat Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?
The best estimate depends on what you count as “the main story.” Hamaguchi gave a developer estimate of roughly 40 hours for main progression in a September 2023 interview with PlayStation Blog Japan. He also described exploration and optional activities as part of the intended way to experience the journey.

GameSpot’s 2024 guide reports the developers’ average main-story estimate as 40 hours, but puts its own experience at closer to 50 hours when skipping most side content. These are estimates from different sources and should not be treated as results from a controlled comparison.
| Play style | Useful estimate | What the estimate covers |
|---|---|---|
| Main progression | About 40 hours | Director Naoki Hamaguchi’s September 2023 estimate; GameSpot also attributes an average main-story estimate of 40 hours to the developers. |
| Story-first, skipping most optional content | Closer to 50 hours | GameSpot’s own play estimate, rather than the developer’s estimate. |
| Main quest plus selected side activities | About 65 hours | GameSpot’s reported experience including some, but not all, optional content. |
| All side quests or near-completion | 65 hours or more | Push Square’s January 2025 guide estimate; the total depends on how much optional content you complete. |
| Completionist or Platinum goal | About 100 hours or more | GameSpot and Push Square guide estimates for pursuing the game’s content broadly or earning Platinum. |
These figures are guidance, not a guaranteed finish time or a population-wide player statistic. Your pace, difficulty, exploration, and choice of optional activities all affect the total.

What makes playtime vary?
The adventure moves through multiple regions, each with activities beyond the main route. GameSpot’s guide identifies regional side quests and collectibles, including chocobo-related activities, towers, lifestreams, excavation sites, and summon sanctuaries. Players who stop to explore and clear these as they appear will spend substantially longer than players who focus on story objectives.
The 65-hour estimate is a useful middle ground if you want to do some of the optional content without trying to clear everything. A full side-quest or completionist target has no single fixed duration; guide estimates place broad completion at around 100 hours or more.
