Activision Blizzard told The Washington Post that Call of Duty had sold more than 500 million copies by October 30, 2024. The latest Battlefield-wide total located is 88.7 million copies worldwide as of November 2022, from a secondary reference summary. These dated figures favor Call of Duty, but they do not support an exact current gap because their dates and evidence sources differ.
Reported franchise sales at a glance

| Call of Duty | More than 500 million copies | Reported October 30, 2024; Activision Blizzard supplied the figure to The Washington Post. | Franchise-wide copies sold to date, as reported by the publisher to the newspaper. Read The Washington Post report. |
| Battlefield | 88.7 million copies worldwide | Stated as of November 2022 in a secondary franchise summary; no current EA confirmation of this all-time total was located. | A dated franchise-wide aggregate, not a verified current total. See the Battlefield series summary. |

What the comparison does—and does not—show
The available benchmarks show Call of Duty ahead by a wide margin: its reported threshold is more than 500 million, compared with Battlefield’s 88.7 million aggregate as of November 2022. The evidence is not evenly matched. The Call of Duty number was attributed to Activision Blizzard by a major newspaper in 2024; Battlefield’s figure comes from a secondary summary and has an earlier cutoff.

It would therefore be misleading to subtract the two figures and present the result as a precise current sales gap, or to calculate a definitive ratio. The totals are from different dates, and the sources do not establish identical accounting or release coverage. The careful answer is that Call of Duty has the larger reported franchise total; the exact current difference is not established by these figures.
Why Battlefield 6’s launch figure is separate
EA said Battlefield 6 sold over 7 million copies in its first three days in October 2025, calling it the biggest launch in franchise history. That is an opening-period result for one game, not an updated all-time Battlefield total. It should not be added to the older 88.7-million aggregate: the available figures do not establish whether their coverage overlaps or how the older total was compiled.

Players and hours are not copies sold
EA reported 100 million Battlefield players and 5 billion hours played in a July 17, 2026 announcement. Those are engagement figures, not sales totals, so they cannot replace or update the franchise’s copies-sold figure. Read EA’s engagement announcement.

Activision previously announced more than 55 million Call of Duty units worldwide, an older milestone that predates the later 500-million threshold. It is historical context, not a competing current estimate. The wording also differs—“units” in the older announcement and “copies” in the 2024 report—so those terms should not be treated as proof of identical accounting definitions.
