The figure includes physical and digital sales; it is a dated milestone, not a confirmed current lifetime total.
What is the confirmed sales figure?
Square Enix announced the milestone on December 6, 2024: more than 2 million copies sold worldwide. The publisher’s announcement covers physical and digital sales. It says “more than 2 million,” not exactly 2 million. The remake launched on November 14, 2024. Square Enix’s announcement and contemporary coverage reported the milestone.
Does that tell us its current lifetime sales?
No. The latest standalone figure established here for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the December 2024 milestone. It should not be presented as a current lifetime total, since no later title-specific total is established.

February 2025 investor briefing
Square Enix said HD Games operating income rose mainly because Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake sales were stronger than initially assumed. The briefing did not give a unit count. How to state the number accurately
- Use “more than 2 million worldwide,” attributed to Square Enix’s December 6, 2024 announcement.
- Make clear that the figure includes physical and digital sales.
- Do not describe it as the game’s current lifetime total.
- Do not assign the later 4 million combined figure for the three remakes to Dragon Quest III alone.
