It takes 24 diamonds to craft a full diamond armor set in Minecraft: 5 for the helmet, 8 for the chestplate, 7 for the leggings, and 4 for the boots.
Diamond cost for each armor piece
| Armor piece | Diamonds required |
|---|---|
| Helmet | 5 |
| Chestplate | 8 |
| Leggings | 7 |
| Boots | 4 |
| Full set | 24 |
The total is the cost of the four standard armor recipes: one helmet, one chestplate, one pair of leggings, and one pair of boots. The Minecraft Wiki’s diamond tutorial gives the full-set total, and its advancement guide covers the armor pieces and recipes.
What the 24-diamond total includes
Twenty-four diamonds is the crafting-material cost for the four armor pieces. It does not include diamond tools or weapons, armor trims, smithing-template duplication, or upgrading the armor to netherite. Mojang discusses netherite equipment as a separate progression step in its 2023 snapshot notes.
Do you have to mine all 24 diamonds?
No. The 24-diamond figure applies when crafting the complete set from diamonds. Diamond armor can also be obtained through generated loot, rare mob drops, and armorer villager trades, as noted in the Minecraft Wiki’s advancement guide. Those alternatives change how you acquire the armor, not the crafting cost.
