If you mean the special glowing red-orange sites used to find an Empty Perk Bottle, a Black Ops II guide lists 15 possible locations. That is not a count of every ordinary dirt-and-bone pile you can dig; a definitive total for those piles is not established.
What the count of 15 includes
The 15-location figure comes from a Steam Community guide by MaZ_TeR, posted in 2013 and updated in 2015. It counts possible special glowing dig sites tied to the Empty Perk Bottle, not all shovel-diggable piles on Origins. The guide says the active glowing site is randomized among the listed locations and remains there until dug up.
Origins is available in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and was also remastered in Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles. The 15-location count is from a Black Ops II guide, so do not assume it applies to the remaster: a separate result describes 16 possible locations in Zombies Chronicles, but the available sources do not independently verify that count. Activision confirms Origins is included in Zombies Chronicles.
How the glowing dig sites work
- Use the shovel to dig piles around Origins. Dig results can include weapons, power-ups, hazards, and, in the right conditions, quest items or rewards.
- Dig 30 times in one game to earn the Golden Shovel, according to the Steam guide.
- With the Golden Shovel and Zombie Blood active, dig a special glowing red-orange site to obtain an Empty Perk Bottle. Each bottle adds an extra perk slot.
The guide says these special sites do not move before they are dug up. Its 15 locations are possible spots, not 15 guaranteed bottles in one match.

Ordinary shovel piles and Ice Staff parts
The total number of ordinary dirt-and-bone piles is not established by the sources cited here. Those piles are distinct from the 15 special glowing locations and can produce randomized results.
Digging also matters for the Ice Staff quest: its three parts can be found at shovel sites while it is snowing. The locations are grouped across the Generator 2–3 area, Generator 4–5 area, and the Church/Generator 6 area. See the Ice Staff quest guide for the part-location details.
