How Many MPH Does a Roblox Character Walk?

Roblox’s default WalkSpeed of 16 studs per second is about 10 mph under the platform’s standard stud conversion—a calculated equivalent, not a measured real-world speed.

A default Roblox character’s configured walking speed is about 10 mph when converted using Roblox’s standard stud scale. More precisely, the default is 16 studs per second, equivalent to 4.48 meters per second, or about 10.02 mph. That mph figure is a calculation—not a speed Roblox publishes as a real-world measurement.

How the Roblox speed converts to mph

  1. Roblox documents the default Humanoid.WalkSpeed as 16 studs per second. The property describes the humanoid’s maximum movement speed; by default, it follows StarterPlayer.CharacterWalkSpeed. Roblox Creator Hub’s Humanoid reference

  2. Roblox’s standard length conversion is 1 stud = 28 centimeters, or 0.28 meters. Roblox Creator Hub’s units documentation

  3. Multiply the default speed by the length of a stud: 16 studs/second × 0.28 meters/stud = 4.48 meters/second.

  4. Convert meters per second to miles per hour: 4.48 × 2.236936 = 10.02 mph, which rounds to about 10 mph.

The calculation uses Roblox’s documented default and standard scale; it is not an independently measured speed for a character moving through a real-world environment.

Why an avatar may move slower

WalkSpeed is a maximum setting, not a promise that the character is always moving at that rate. Roblox notes that mobile and gamepad players may move more slowly depending on how far they tilt the thumbstick. An experience can also use settings that differ from the default. What the mph figure does—and does not—mean

The conversion assumes the standard Roblox scale of 28 centimeters per stud. Roblox says its physics engine does not use unit conversions internally, and creators may interpret studs differently. So about 10 mph is a useful equivalent for the documented default under that standard scale, not a universal physical speed for every Roblox experience. Roblox Creator Hub’s units documentation
