A Minecraft Realm supports either 3 or 11 players online at the same time, depending on the subscription: Bedrock Realms allows the host plus two players; Bedrock Realms Plus and Java Realms allow the host plus ten. These are simultaneous-player limits, not limits on how many friends can be invited. Minecraft’s official plan comparison lists the current capacities.

Player limits by Realm subscription

Subscription Players online at once Total including the host Edition
Bedrock Realms Host plus 2 3 Bedrock
Bedrock Realms Plus Host plus 10 11 Bedrock
Java Realms Host plus 10 11 Java

These capacities are listed by Minecraft on its official Realms page. The host counts as one of the players, so “host plus ten” means eleven people total—not ten guests in addition to the host.

How many friends can you invite?

The number of invitees is separate from the number who can play simultaneously. Minecraft’s plan comparison lists up to 10,000 invited friends, while the active player limit remains 3 or 11 depending on the subscription. Inviting someone does not create another concurrent slot.

Make sure everyone has the compatible edition

Java Realms are for Java Edition players, and Bedrock Realms are for Bedrock Edition players. Java and Bedrock players cannot join the same Realm together. Minecraft’s edition compatibility guide explains the distinction.

Minecraft - Nintendo Switch
  • Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
  • Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
  • Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
  • Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
  • Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only

Within Bedrock, Realms support cross-play across supported Bedrock devices, including consoles, mobile devices, and Windows computers. Minecraft lists Java Realms cross-play for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The device list does not make Java and Bedrock editions compatible with each other.

Who needs a subscription?

The Realm owner maintains the Realm subscription; invited friends do not need to buy their own Realms subscription to join. Console players may still need a separate online multiplayer subscription from their platform, as noted on Minecraft’s Realms page.

Can friends play when the host is offline?

Yes. Minecraft describes Realms as personal servers available 24/7, so invited players can join at other times without the host being online, subject to the Realm’s simultaneous-player cap.
