REANIMAL supports up to two players together, either locally or online. You can also play solo. For online co-op, one player can own the game and invite the other through Friend’s Pass; the developer recommends both players use the same platform.
How many people can play REANIMAL?
REANIMAL is a one- or two-player game: you can play alone, or team up with one other person. It does not support a larger co-op party. The official REANIMAL site and Steam listing describe single-player, local co-op and online co-op. Xbox lists two players for both local and online multiplayer, while PlayStation lists one to two players and up to two online players.

What co-op options are available?
Play solo
You can play the full game by yourself. Its camera is designed around a shared, directed view, rather than giving each player an independent camera.
Local co-op
Two people can play together on the same system. On Nintendo Switch 2, THQ Nordic’s April 16, 2026 Patch 1.7 announcement says local co-op supports one Joy-Con per player. Controller requirements may differ by platform.

Online co-op with Friend’s Pass
For online play, the developer’s Friend’s Pass Guide, posted February 18, 2026, says one player needs to own REANIMAL and the second can join using Friend’s Pass. The pass is described as free; the invited player does not need to buy a second copy to join that owner’s session.
Do both players need to be on the same platform?
The developer-pinned Friend’s Pass guide says players should be on the same platform. It notes reports that crossplay has worked, but says crossplay is not officially supported. Treat matching platforms as the reliable setup rather than assuming a PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch player can join someone on another platform.

Does online co-op require a subscription?
Platform online-play requirements apply. The Xbox listing says console online multiplayer requires an eligible Xbox Game Pass subscription. The PlayStation listing says PS Plus is required for online play. Check the current requirement for your platform and region before arranging an online session.

Quick setup checklist
- Choose a mode: play solo, share one system for local co-op, or connect online.
- For local play: have the controllers required for your platform. On Nintendo Switch 2, Patch 1.7 adds local play with one Joy-Con per player.
- For online play: have the game owner invite the second player through Friend’s Pass, and use the same platform for the supported setup.
- Check online access: confirm any console multiplayer subscription requirement for the platform you are using.
