How many players can play together in a squad?
You can play Gray Zone Warfare solo or in a squad of up to four players total. The four-player limit applies to both of the game’s modes, according to MADFINGER Games’ support answer published October 1, 2025.
In other words, you can bring up to three other players with you; four is the whole squad, not four friends plus you.
Does player count differ between PvE and PvEvP?
The two modes are Joint Operations (PvE) and Warfare (PvEvP). Both allow solo play or a squad of up to four. In Joint Operations, players cannot attack or loot one another and instead fight AI enemies. Warfare is the PvEvP mode, where player-versus-player combat is part of the experience.

How many players are in a faction or server?
MADFINGER’s April 30, 2024 Early Access launch announcement described “3 factions with 16 players per faction”—48 players across those factions in the launch-era configuration. Treat that as the announcement’s faction figure, not a confirmed current server cap: the later support article on modes and squad size does not restate a total server capacity.

Concurrent population changes over time, and a live count depends on the platform and the moment it was recorded. SteamCharts showed 1,527 concurrent players on Steam at 08:03:46 UTC on October 7, 2026. Its same snapshot listed a 2,539 24-hour peak, a 71,503 all-time peak, and a 1,813.62 average over the prior 30 days. These are SteamCharts figures for Steam, not official MADFINGER telemetry or an all-platform count.
For context, the official Steam listing identifies MADFINGER Games as the developer and publisher and gives April 30, 2024 as the release date. A Steam concurrent count tells you how many Steam users were online at its timestamp; it does not tell you how many can fit in a squad or establish a server limit.

Which player count should you use?
- To play with friends: up to four players per squad, including you.
- To describe the launch faction setup: three factions of 16 players each, as stated in the April 30, 2024 launch announcement.
- To describe current activity: give a platform and timestamp with the concurrent count; do not present it as the total population across platforms.
