The Tetris Company reported that more than 520 million Tetris copies had been sold worldwide as of June 2026. That is an approximate threshold, not an exact sales tally.
How many copies of Tetris have been sold?
In a June 5, 2026 announcement, The Tetris Company said that more than 520 million copies of Tetris had been sold worldwide since the game was created in 1984. The release’s boilerplate describes the total as “over 520 million units sold worldwide.” The company’s World Tetris Day 2026 announcement does not provide a more precise total.

The company has not published a platform-by-platform breakdown or explained how it calculates the cumulative figure in that announcement. It therefore should not be read as a count of unique buyers, paid copies only, or a particular edition.

Sales, mobile downloads and online plays are different metrics
| Metric | Reported figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Worldwide sales | More than 520 million copies, reported by The Tetris Company in June 2026 | The company’s cumulative sales statement; its release does not specify a detailed counting method. Source |
| Mobile downloads | Over 590 million, reported by The Tetris Company in 2023 | Downloads of Tetris mobile games, not copies sold. This is an earlier figure and must not be added to or substituted for the sales total. Source |
| Online game plays | Billions every year, according to The Tetris Company in 2026 | Plays, not sales or downloads. Source |
Why Tetris has such a broad sales total
Tetris was created in 1984, and The Tetris Company says it has appeared on more than 50 platforms. That history helps explain the scale of the franchise, but the company’s June 2026 statement does not break the sales total down by console, computer, mobile device, or individual release. The announcement is the source for both the platform count and the cumulative sales claim.
