To catch a Devilfish in Sea of Thieves, equip Grubs as bait and fish in The Devil’s Roar. For a Firelight Devilfish, the community-maintained wiki lists an additional requirement: fish at night, from 22:30 to 06:59 in-game.
Where to catch Devilfish and what bait to use
Fish in The Devil’s Roar with Grubs equipped. The community-maintained Seashell Devilfish, Ashen Devilfish and Firelight Devilfish pages all identify this region and Grubs as the relevant bait.

Rare’s official fishing guide explains that bait is optional for fishing in general, but specific bait is needed to catch some species in certain areas. The Devilfish-specific region and bait details above come from community-maintained wiki pages, rather than Rare’s general guide.
How to catch a Firelight Devilfish
Fish in The Devil’s Roar at night. The community-maintained Firelight Devilfish page lists its catch window as 22:30–06:59 in-game. Rare’s general fishing guide does not specify a Devilfish schedule, so treat this exact time range as wiki-listed information.

What to expect while fishing
A particular variant is not guaranteed on any cast. Rare says Trophy fish can appear for all fish types and put up a stronger fight when you try to reel them in. The cited sources do not provide reliable Devilfish catch odds, a guaranteed shortcut or a predictable catch time, so be prepared to fish patiently.
Cook and sell your catch
If you want to sell a Devilfish, cook it on your ship’s skillet first. Rare’s guide says cooked fish sell for more, while burnt fish sell for much less; watch the skillet so the fish does not burn. You can sell fish to a Hunter’s Call representative at a Seapost for gold and reputation. The Seashell Devilfish wiki page also lists Sovereigns as a sale option.
