Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo hunt together in Monster Hunter Rise, use Hub Quests: Village Quests are solo-only. Players can meet in a lobby, take the same Hub Quest, or use a Join Request to join an eligible hunt already underway. Parties are capped at four hunters. Cross-play depends on the exact platform editions; do not assume that friends on different platforms can join the same hunt.
How does multiplayer work in Monster Hunter Rise?
Multiplayer is built around Hub Quests, which hunters take from the Gathering Hub. If you own Sunbreak, its quest counter at Elgado Outpost is another place to take quests together. Capcom’s manuals describe the same basic split across Switch, PlayStation, and Steam: Village Quests are for solo play, while Hub Quests are the multiplayer route. Being in a lobby with friends does not make a Village Quest co-op.

A lobby is the shared space where players gather before a hunt. It can hold up to four players, according to Capcom’s manuals. Once together, players accept the same Hub Quest, or one player posts a quest and sends a Join Request so eligible hunters can join while it is in progress.
Can you play Monster Hunter Rise with friends?
Yes. Create or find a lobby, bring your friends into it, and take a Hub Quest together. Lobby creation and search options vary by platform, so follow the instructions for your edition rather than relying on another platform’s menu labels.

- The debut of the new “wirebug” mechanic allows for wire-based grappling actions that can be used to scale cliffs and other hard-to-reach areas, providing new traversal and aerial attack options.
- The game will introduce magnamalo, a menacing new flagship monster, as well as other new monsters like the shape-shifting aknosom, the amphibious tetranadon, and more.
- New hunting partners called palamutes can be personalized and used to ride across the terrain, providing players with all-new traveling and attack options.
- In addition to the plethora of solo and multiplayer quests, the immersive story mode will task aspiring hunters with discovering the secrets behind the puzzling “rampage” events that threaten kamura village.
- Play solo, or join up to three other hunters in local or online co-op play. The Nintendo Switch system also allows for hunting anywhere, anytime and with anyone!
On Nintendo Switch
For online play, use the Courier (Senri) to create or search for a lobby. Capcom lists options including searching by conditions, Hunter Connect, or lobby ID. Online multiplayer requires an internet connection and Nintendo Switch Online.
For nearby friends, choose Play Locally and create or find a local lobby. Capcom says local co-op supports up to four players, with each person needing a Nintendo Switch console and a copy of Monster Hunter Rise. Local wireless play is separate from online play and does not require the online lobby flow.
On PlayStation and Steam
Use the multiplayer options in the game’s platform-specific menus to create or join a lobby, then accept the same Hub Quest. PlayStation online multiplayer requires an internet connection, a PSN sign-in, and PlayStation Plus, according to Capcom’s PlayStation manual. The Steam manual specifies a network connection and Steam sign-in.
What are Join Requests?
Join Requests are the game’s drop-in option for eligible Hub Quests. A host can send one when posting a quest or after the hunt has begun; other hunters can search for a quest they are able to join. They are not a way to turn a solo Village Quest into multiplayer. Capcom’s manuals also say Join Requests are unavailable in local multiplayer.

Can you play Village Quests in co-op?
No. Village Quests are solo-only, including when you are already in a lobby. Capcom’s Switch manual says players can accept Village Quests at the lobby counter but cannot play them with other people. Choose a Hub Quest for a shared hunt instead. Do not assume every story or special quest is multiplayer simply because the game supports co-op; quest-specific restrictions can apply.
Does Monster Hunter Rise have cross-play?
There is no complete official compatibility matrix in the available Capcom materials for every combination of Switch, Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox editions. Do not assume that players on different platforms can join one another’s hunts. The PlayStation manual specifically confirms that PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5 players can play together; that confirmation does not establish compatibility with other platform families.
Before arranging a session, check the manual for the exact editions your group owns. Capcom also requires players to be on the same game version, so install the same current update before troubleshooting a failed lobby. Cross-save and cross-play are different: shared progress does not by itself mean players can join the same hunt.
Quick setup checklist
- Choose the right quest: go to the Gathering Hub or, with Sunbreak, Elgado Outpost and select a Hub Quest.
- Match the platform and version: confirm the exact platform editions are compatible and that everyone has the same game version.
- Choose online or local play: online sessions need the platform’s stated network access and, where required, its online subscription; Switch also offers local wireless play.
- Meet in a lobby: create or find one using the options shown for your platform. The lobby limit is four players.
- Start or join the hunt: accept the same Hub Quest, or use a Join Request for an eligible in-progress quest.
Capcom’s platform-specific instructions are available in its Switch manual, PlayStation manual, and Steam manual. Its Nintendo Switch multiplayer support page also describes how to access multiplayer.
