For someone watching a 24/7 YouTube Live loop in India, Jio’s general video estimates imply about 7.2–168 GB a day, depending on playback quality; over 30 days, that is 216 GB–5.04 TB. These are estimates for video use, not YouTube-specific guarantees. If you are transmitting the loop yourself, calculate your upload separately from the encoder’s bitrate: for example, YouTube’s H.264 guidance works out to about 87.8 GB/day at 720p and 152.6 GB/day at 1080p30, including its separately listed stereo-audio bitrate.
Viewer data use: estimate by playback quality
Jio lists general video-consumption estimates of up to 0.3 GB/hour at low quality, 0.7 GB/hour at medium, 1 GB/hour at high, 3 GB/hour at HD and 7 GB/hour at Ultra HD. Multiplying each hourly estimate by 24 gives the daily figures below; multiplying by 30 gives a 30-day estimate.
| Jio quality category | Estimated per hour | Estimated per day (24 hours) | Estimated per 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB | Up to 7.2 GB | Up to 216 GB |
| Medium | Up to 0.7 GB | Up to 16.8 GB | Up to 504 GB |
| High | Up to 1 GB | Up to 24 GB | Up to 720 GB |
| HD | Up to 3 GB | Up to 72 GB | Up to 2,160 GB |
| Ultra HD | Up to 7 GB | Up to 168 GB | Up to 5,040 GB (5.04 TB) |
These are Jio’s general video estimates; its undated guidance says actual consumption can vary by app or website, including YouTube. Treat them as a planning range, not a measured YouTube rate or a promise of what a particular live stream will consume. See Jio’s quality estimates.
If you are streaming the loop, calculate upload data instead
The viewer table describes downloads to a person watching. A broadcaster or streaming service sends data upstream, and the relevant input is the encoder’s sustained bitrate. YouTube’s recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate; the figures below are specifically its H.264 video guidance, with stereo audio listed separately at 128 Kbps.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| H.264 setting | Recommended video bitrate | Estimated video upload per day | Estimated total with 128 Kbps stereo audio | Estimated total for 30 days with audio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8 Mbps | 86.4 GB | About 87.8 GB/day | About 2.63 TB |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps | 86.4 GB | About 87.8 GB/day | About 2.63 TB |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 151.2 GB | About 152.6 GB/day | About 4.58 TB |
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 183.6 GB | About 185.0 GB/day | About 5.55 TB |
The arithmetic uses 10.8 decimal GB per day for every sustained 1 Mbps, then adds the separately specified audio rate. Estimates assume a continuous stream for 24 hours daily, or 30 days for the monthly column; they are not measured traffic totals and exclude protocol overhead or downtime. YouTube’s official settings include different recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, so these H.264 numbers should not be generalized to other codecs. YouTube also transcodes live streams for viewer output, meaning encoder upload bitrate is not the same as each viewer’s download rate. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings.
How to estimate your own monthly usage
For watching
- Choose the playback quality you expect to use, then use the provider’s hourly estimate as a starting point. For the Jio figures above, multiply GB/hour by 24 for a day and by 720 for a 30-day month.
- Check your device or mobile-provider usage meter while watching. Actual use can vary with playback quality and app behavior, so the meter is a better guide to your own viewing than a general estimate.
For transmitting
- Find the video bitrate configured in your encoder and note its codec, resolution and frame rate. YouTube’s recommendations are setting-specific.
- Add the audio bitrate to the video bitrate. For example, the cited YouTube table lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio separately from video.
- For a quick estimate, multiply total Mbps by 10.8 to get decimal GB/day. Multiply daily use by the actual number of streaming days; use 30 for a 30-day estimate.
- Allow for network overhead and account for interruptions or downtime. The formula estimates payload from bitrate and time, not the exact amount an ISP will record.
Units and limits to keep in mind
- These calculations use decimal units: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes and 1 TB = 1,000 GB. A phone or ISP may display binary units or round usage differently.
- For viewers, selected quality and the app’s behavior affect consumption. There is no single India-wide exact YouTube figure established by these estimates.
- For broadcasters, codec, resolution, frame rate, video and audio bitrate, uptime and network overhead all matter. Do not use viewer-download estimates to budget an encoder’s upload allowance.
How to reduce data use while watching on mobile
Lower the playback quality in YouTube’s player controls and monitor your device or provider’s usage meter. Jio’s instructions describe changing YouTube quality during playback. See Jio’s YouTube quality instructions.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you are the channel owner transmitting a prerecorded loop, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos without requiring a computer, OBS or home internet connection to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. The cloud handles the loop and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. It sends your uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot rather than separate quality tiers. This changes the broadcaster’s operating setup; it does not reduce how much data a viewer uses at their chosen playback quality.
The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly service costs $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. Learn about StreamNeo, or start your free day.
