In 2026, a hosted Minecraft server costs about $2.50 to $96 per month across reported plans. RAM allocation and expected concurrent players drive the price: a small vanilla group usually falls near $15–$25 monthly, while a similarly sized modded community is commonly reported at $30–$50. Mojang’s Java Realms is a separate flat-rate option at $7.99 per month, while free hosts and self-hosting trade money for limits, hardware work, or electricity costs.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Java servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What you are paying for
A Minecraft server bill is primarily a bill for memory, processor capacity, storage, network bandwidth, support, and availability. The published comparisons available for 2026 consistently identify allocated RAM and the number of players you expect online at the same time as the strongest price drivers. A server for a few friends can run on a low tier; a public community, a heavily modded pack, or a network with several game modes needs a larger allocation and costs more.

Prices in this article are monthly figures reported by secondary hosting guides and comparison pages, not a standardized industry rate card. Checkout totals can vary by country, tax, billing term, currency conversion, Java or Bedrock edition, and promotional offer. Treat the figures as planning ranges and confirm the live renewal price before paying.
RAM and player capacity
Hosting companies generally sell plans in RAM tiers. More RAM gives the server more room for world data, entities, plugins, and mod code, but it does not by itself guarantee smooth play: the workload created by your settings and software matters. The same player count can therefore require different tiers on a lightweight vanilla world and a demanding modpack.

One reported benchmark works out to about EUR 1.10 per gigabyte of RAM per month at a particular provider; another guide cites roughly $1 per gigabyte at a different provider. These are provider-specific reference points, not universal prices, and they should not be multiplied into a guaranteed quote.
Vanilla versus modded software
Vanilla servers use the unmodified game server software and generally sit toward the lower end of a comparable player-count budget. Modpacks add code, assets, and world activity, so guides commonly place them in a higher RAM and price tier. The reported difference is substantial even for the same 10–20-player community.
Always-on availability
A paid plan normally runs continuously, subject to the host’s uptime terms. Free services often suspend or hibernate an instance when nobody is playing. If players need to join at any time without someone manually waking the server, include an always-on plan in your budget rather than comparing its price with a free host that sleeps when idle.

Reported 2026 monthly price bands
| Use case | Reported monthly cost | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| Small vanilla community, 10–20 players | $15–$25 | Typical range reported by secondary guides for an always-available community server. |
| Modded community, 10–20 players | $30–$50 | Higher range reported for the same approximate player count when running modpacks. |
| Small vanilla plan, 2–4 GB RAM | EUR 2.59–EUR 6 | Reported low-end plans described as always-on and including DDoS protection; currency and provider differ. |
| Modpacks or larger communities, 9–16 GB RAM | About EUR 11.65 and up | Reported starting point for substantially larger allocations; the final price depends on provider and term. |
| 20–50 players on a large network | $6–$15 | A single guide reported this range for 24/7 service; confidence is low because it conflicts with other price bands and may describe a specific setup. |
| More than 100 concurrent players | $80–$200 | A single guide’s estimate for a large network; treat it as low-confidence planning information, not a market average. |
The broad set of reported plans runs from roughly $2.50 to $96 per month. That span combines different RAM sizes, player limits, editions, regions, and service levels, so it is not a promise that every host offers every point in the range.
Examples from named hosting plans
Several comparison pages list launch prices for recognizable managed hosts. These examples show why the renewal rate matters more than the headline first month.
| Provider | Reported entry price | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Apex Hosting | $11.24 for the first month | Reported renewal is $14.99 per month. Verify the current checkout total, taxes, term, and included resources. |
| Shockbyte | From $2.99 per month | The comparison describes unlimited player slots; slot wording does not remove CPU, RAM, or software limits, so inspect the plan resources. |
| BisectHosting | From $2.99 per month | Reported support for both Java and Bedrock; confirm the exact edition, RAM, player policy, and renewal terms for the plan you select. |
These are launch or “from” prices reported by secondary sources. They are not verified live checkout quotations, and a low entry tier may be unsuitable for a modpack or a busy public server.

Mojang Realms: a flat-price alternative
Java Realms
Java Realms is reported at $7.99 per month on a recurring basis for the owner plus up to 10 other players. It is a fixed subscription rather than a menu of RAM tiers, so you pay for the Realms service instead of selecting memory capacity. The Minecraft page carrying the figure was available as a cached result, so check the live official page before subscribing.
Bedrock Realms and Realms Plus
Secondary guides report Bedrock Realms at $3.99 per month for up to three players and Realms Plus at $7.99 per month. Those Bedrock figures were not independently verified against a live official checkout page, and regional taxes or currency can change the amount shown to you.
Trials and regional prices
Guides describe a free trial for new accounts as either one month or 30 days. Because the descriptions differ, read the offer shown in your account and note when recurring billing begins. Reported European pricing is approximately EUR 7.49–EUR 8.99, while reported UK pricing is approximately GBP 5.99–GBP 7.99; these regional figures are unconfirmed and should be treated as indicative only.

Realms can be attractive when you want a simple official subscription and a small fixed group. Its flat structure also means you cannot buy extra RAM for a demanding modpack in the way you can with a dedicated host. Decide based on edition, player count, software requirements, and whether the fixed service fits your use case.

Free services
Free hosts such as Aternos and Minehut charge no subscription fee. Their trade-off is operational: the server can hibernate when idle and resources are capped. That model suits occasional sessions where players can wait for startup, but it is a poor fit for a community that expects an always-on world or wants to run a resource-heavy modpack.
Running the server yourself
Self-hosting has no hosting subscription, but it is not cost-free. You supply the computer, storage, internet connection, maintenance time, and electricity. Your recurring bill depends on the machine’s power draw and local electricity rate; your one-time cost depends on hardware you already own or need to buy. You also take responsibility for updates, backups, access control, troubleshooting, and making the service reachable to players. Self-hosting can be economical when suitable hardware is already available, but it shifts both technical work and outage risk to you.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Choose a realistic budget step by step
- Count concurrent players, not total members. Estimate the number online at peak time. A community with 100 registered members but 12 online at once should budget around the 12-player workload, then leave headroom for growth.
- Identify the edition. Java and Bedrock are different server ecosystems. Confirm that the plan supports the edition your players use; dedicated-host prices were not separately sourced for each edition, so do not assume one edition’s quote applies to the other.
- Classify the software. Vanilla, lightly configured servers, plugins, and full modpacks place different demands on the machine. Use the vanilla or modded price band as a starting point rather than selecting solely by advertised player slots.
- Set the availability requirement. If the world must be reachable 24/7, exclude hibernating free services from the shortlist. If sessions are occasional, a free service or a self-hosted machine that you turn on only when needed may be sufficient.
- Compare renewal pricing. Record the first-month charge, recurring charge, billing interval, taxes, and any setup fee in separate columns. A promotion that begins at $11.24 and renews at $14.99 is not a $11.24-per-month long-term budget.
- Check the resource line items. Note RAM, storage, CPU policy, backups, player-slot rules, DDoS protection, support scope, and whether changing tiers is possible. “Unlimited slots” does not mean unlimited performance.
- Keep a growth reserve. If your estimate is near the top of a tier, budget for the next tier or choose a host that allows upgrades without rebuilding the world. The reported price bands rise sharply for modpacks and large communities.
Which model fits which player group?
| Model | Best fit | Main cost trade-off | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed dedicated host | Communities wanting 24/7 access and configurable resources | Recurring monthly fee that rises with RAM and workload | Renewal price, edition support, resource limits, and upgrade rules |
| Java Realms | Small Java group wanting a simple official subscription | Flat $7.99 monthly price with no RAM tiers | Up to 10 additional players; verify the live price and feature fit |
| Bedrock Realms | Small Bedrock group comparing a fixed official service | Reported $3.99 or $7.99 tiers, not independently verified | Player allowance, regional billing, and current offer terms |
| Free host | Occasional play where startup delays are acceptable | No subscription charge | Hibernation and capped resources |
| Self-hosted machine | Operators with hardware, technical ability, and control requirements | No hosting subscription, but hardware and electricity costs | Maintenance, security, connectivity, backups, and power usage |
Common budgeting mistakes
- Using the promotional rate as the annual budget. Always model the recurring renewal amount after the introductory period.
- Buying by slot count alone. A high or unlimited slot number does not tell you how much RAM or CPU the plan includes.
- Assuming Java and Bedrock cost the same. Dedicated-host pricing for the two editions was not separately established, and Realms prices are edition-specific.
- Ignoring idle behavior. A free server that sleeps is not equivalent to a paid always-on server.
- Converting currencies without checking region. EUR, GBP, and USD figures come from different reports and may exclude tax or use different billing terms.
- Planning a modpack on a vanilla budget. The reported 10–20-player modded range is roughly double the vanilla range, so leave room for the heavier workload.
What to verify before you pay
Use the host’s live checkout and documentation to confirm the exact plan. Ask or look for the following answers in writing:
- What is the recurring renewal price after every introductory period?
- How much RAM and what CPU resources are included?
- Are Java, Bedrock, or both supported on this specific plan?
- Are player slots capped, and how is performance limited when the cap is described as unlimited?
- Does the server stay online continuously, or does it hibernate?
- Are backups, DDoS protection, storage, and migrations included or charged separately?
- Can you increase RAM later without changing the server address or rebuilding the world?
- Which taxes, currency conversions, and cancellation rules apply to your region?
Bottom line for 2026 planning
For a 10–20-player vanilla community, reserve about $15–$25 per month; for a similarly sized modded community, plan on about $30–$50 based on reported guides. Smaller low-RAM plans can appear around EUR 2.59–EUR 6, while 9–16 GB modpack-oriented plans are reported from about EUR 11.65 upward. Java Realms offers a simple recurring $7.99 price for the owner and up to 10 additional players, whereas free services remove the subscription but add hibernation and resource limits. The safest budget is the renewal price for the RAM tier your workload actually needs, with enough headroom for peak players and software growth.
