An Atari console’s value depends on its exact model and revision, condition, tested status, and what is included. PriceCharting’s 2026 guide estimates an Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer at $173.50 loose and $300 complete-in-box; its Light Sixer estimates are $48.22 loose and $130.79 complete-in-box. The same guide lists an Atari Jaguar at $532.39 loose and $700 complete. These are guide estimates, not guaranteed sale prices. For a fair valuation, compare recent completed sales for the same system and similar condition.
Why there is no single Atari console price
“Atari console” can mean several different systems and revisions. A 2600 revision, a 5200, a 7800, and a Jaguar should not be treated as interchangeable. Condition and completeness matter too: a tested system with its original accessories is a different comparison from an untested console or a boxed, sealed example.
Price guides provide useful reference points, but their figures reflect past marketplace sales and category definitions. They are not an offer for your console, and actual results can vary by sale date and market. Check the guide’s current figures and match its category to the item you have.
Price examples for specific Atari systems
PriceCharting’s guide pages, accessed in 2026, show the following estimates. The guide labels its 2600 prices as loose, complete-in-box, and new; for the Jaguar it shows loose, complete, and new. Do not assume those labels mean the same thing across every marketplace or that a new/sealed estimate describes a typical working console.

Atari 2600: identify the revision
The cited guide’s Heavy Sixer and Light Sixer estimates differ substantially, so identifying the revision is essential. Do not list an original 2600 simply as “Atari” and use whichever guide result looks closest. Record the model and visible revision features, then compare like with like.

Atari Jaguar: separate the bare system from bundles
The Jaguar guide’s complete-sale examples include units with varying contents. A bundle containing add-ons is not directly comparable to a bare console, and the guide’s new estimate is not a typical value for a used, working unit. Use the listing details to confirm what was actually included: PriceCharting Atari Jaguar guide.
Atari 5200 and 7800: avoid unsupported ranges
A surfaced PriceCharting record shows one four-port Atari 5200, complete in box and described as untested, sold for $210 on June 14, 2026. One sale does not establish a reliable range for all 5200 systems, particularly tested consoles or different configurations. What changes an Atari console’s resale value?
- Model and revision: Record the system precisely; even two 2600 revisions have different guide estimates.
- Working status: State whether power, video output, controls, and cartridge operation were tested. An untested unit should not be described as working.
- Condition: Note visible wear, damage, corrosion, missing parts, and whether the console has been repaired.
- Completeness: List controllers, power supply, cables, manuals, original packaging, games, and add-ons individually.
- Market and timing: Compare recent completed sales from the same geography and currency where possible; marketplace prices change over time.
A specialist auction guide likewise identifies model, condition, original packaging, and accessories as important variables. It names the 2600, 5200, and 7800 as distinct systems and accepts valuation enquiries: Potteries Auctions Atari valuation guide (April 23, 2026). An enquiry is not a guaranteed sale price.

How to estimate the value of your Atari
- Identify the exact console. Record its model and revision rather than relying on the broad Atari name. For a 2600, distinguish the Heavy Sixer and Light Sixer entries used in the cited guide.
- Test and document it. Check power, video, controls, and cartridge operation if you can do so safely. If you cannot test it, label it untested; do not imply that it works.
- Make an inventory. Note each controller, cable, power supply, manual, game, box, and add-on. Photograph the full set and the important components separately.
- Find recent completed sales. Match the model or revision, tested status, condition, and included items as closely as possible. A seller’s unsold asking price is not evidence of what buyers paid.
- Use guide estimates carefully. Check the guide’s date and categories, then compare them with the actual sold listings behind the estimate. Do not equate “loose,” “complete,” and “complete-in-box” across sources without checking their definitions.
- Assess unusual items separately. A rare game or accessory can affect a bundle’s total and obscure the console’s own value. Check potentially valuable software or add-ons individually before deciding whether to sell them together.
- Consider an expert valuation for a collection. For a boxed, unusual, or potentially high-value group, a specialist valuation service may help assess it; it still cannot guarantee the eventual sale price.
Are modern Atari consoles comparable?
No. Atari’s official catalog displayed the Atari 2600+ Console & Joystick and Atari 7800+ Console & Gamepad at $129.99 each when accessed in 2026. Those are modern product catalog prices, which may change with availability; they do not establish the resale value of an original vintage console. Atari describes the 2600+ as supporting 2600 and 7800 games, with HDMI and widescreen mode. See the official Atari console catalog and Atari homepage for current product information.
