The latest cumulative revenue milestone located is more than $30 billion, reported in 2022 as information shared by Activision Blizzard. That is revenue accumulated over time—not a current valuation of the franchise, its profit, or the price it would fetch in a sale.
What does the $30 billion figure mean?
In June 2022, Game World Observer reported that Activision Blizzard had shared the figure after a presentation for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The report described more than $30 billion in lifetime revenue and more than 425 million units sold. It is secondary reporting of company-provided information, not an independently established current valuation or a franchise-level audited figure. Game World Observer’s report

Revenue is money generated by sales and other commercial activity over a period. It is not the same as profit, which accounts for costs, or an asset valuation, which estimates what the rights and expected future earnings might be worth now. The $30 billion milestone therefore answers how much revenue the franchise had generated by the reported point; it does not say what someone could buy the franchise for today.

The 2024 copies-sold record is a later indicator of the series’ reach, but it does not update the $30 billion revenue milestone. Units, revenue, bookings, and valuation measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable.

How Call of Duty makes money
The franchise’s commercial activity is broader than sales of premium game copies. Activision’s 2020 description of its sales metrics included full-game sales, catalog sales, and digital add-ons across console, PC, and mobile. Activision Blizzard’s fiscal 2022 annual report also describes revenue from full-game and in-game sales and software licensing, and discusses premium and free-to-play offerings and recurring live-service opportunities. This mix is why the copy count cannot be used to calculate an average price and then infer what the franchise earned. The reported revenue and sales milestones have different dates and scopes, while revenue includes monetization beyond full-game copies.

Is there a current standalone valuation?
No independently sourced current valuation of the Call of Duty intellectual property is established by the figures above. A credible present-day valuation would need a stated method and assumptions about future earnings, rights, operating costs, and risk. Neither the historical revenue milestone nor the 2024 sales record supplies those inputs.
Activision Blizzard’s companywide financial statements also cannot fill that gap: they report multiple businesses and franchises rather than a standalone Call of Duty valuation. Likewise, the overall price of a corporate acquisition would value a broader business, not Call of Duty alone.
