Xbox Live Gold is no longer sold under that name. Its successor, Xbox Game Pass Core, was later replaced in Xbox’s current US subscription lineup by Game Pass Essential. Microsoft lists Essential at $10 per month or less; paying the $10 monthly baseline for 12 months works out to $120 before tax. That calculation is not proof that Xbox currently offers a 12-month plan for $120.
What does Xbox Gold cost for a year now?
There is no verified current yearly price for Xbox Live Gold because Gold is a retired service name. Microsoft’s current US subscription information lists Game Pass Essential at $10 per month or less, but does not establish a current annual Essential subscription or the price of a 12-month prepaid code. Microsoft’s current Xbox subscription page is the place to check for available plans and local pricing.
At the $10 monthly baseline, 12 months of month-to-month payments total $120 before tax ($10 × 12). That is an arithmetic estimate, not an annual-plan offer; the actual monthly price may be lower, and the amount may vary by country, taxes, or offers.
What replaced Xbox Live Gold?
Xbox announced that Xbox Live Gold would become Xbox Game Pass Core on September 14, 2023. The current US entry-level plan is named Game Pass Essential. The names refer to different points in the service’s history, so an old Gold price should not be treated as today’s Essential price.

Why do some pages say Xbox Gold was $59.99 a year?
That figure was the announced annual price for Game Pass Core, Gold’s successor at the time. In its 2023 announcement, Xbox said Core would cost $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year and include multiplayer access, member deals, and a select collection of more than 25 games at launch. This is historical Core pricing and launch-era plan information—not a verified current annual price for Game Pass Essential. Xbox Wire’s 2023 Game Pass Core announcement gives the original details.

How to check whether a 12-month option is available to you
- Open the local Xbox subscription page. Select the country or region where your account is registered, then check the listed Game Pass Essential plans and prices.
- Compare the term and total cost. If you find a prepaid 12-month code, compare its full price with 12 monthly payments. Confirm that the code really covers 12 months rather than a shorter term.
- Check eligibility before buying. Verify the code’s country or region restrictions, whether it can be redeemed on your account, renewal behavior, and included benefits. Retailer listings can differ, and no current annual code price is established here.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
