For a small All the Mods 10 (ATM10) server, start with 12–16 GB of total system RAM and give the Minecraft Java process an 8–12 GB heap. That leaves memory for Java overhead, the operating system, the loader, and background services. A reported pack-author minimum is 10 GB server-side, but that figure has not been verified against an official ATM10 page, so it is better treated as a floor than a target.

Use Java 21, measure actual memory and garbage-collection behavior after your group has explored the world, and increase allocation when player count or loaded chunks grow. More RAM is not automatically faster: an unnecessarily large heap can make garbage-collection pauses longer.

ATM10 RAM requirements at a glance
The number you need depends on whether you mean the server machine’s total memory or the Java heap assigned to Minecraft. These are different limits.
| Use case | Total machine RAM | Typical Java heap | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small private group | 12 GB is a practical starting point | About 8 GB | Enough headroom for a few players when the machine is not running many other services |
| Five or more players | 14–16 GB | About 8–12 GB | Space for additional players, exploration and more simultaneously loaded chunks |
| 10–20 players | 16–20 GB | Set after observing usage within that total | Space for a busier world and concurrent activity |
| Public or large server | 20–24 GB or more | Set from measured usage | Headroom for peaks, plugins or other services; actual needs vary substantially |
| Reported pack-author floor | 10 GB server-side | Not stated | Reported by Space-Node in 2026; not independently verified against an official ATM10 document |
| Manifest recommendation | About 12 GB total once overhead is included | 8,196 MB | Value reported in Playkeeper pull request #30; the date was not stated |
Hosting guides from Space-Node (2026) place a small group around 12 GB, five or more players around 14–16 GB, 10–20 players around 16–20 GB, and a public server around 20–24 GB or more. Those are third-party estimates, not an official ATM10 specification.

Total RAM and Java heap are not the same thing
Total RAM is memory installed or assigned to the entire server machine. It must cover the Java process, the operating system, the mod loader, native libraries, file cache and any control panel, voice server, backup job or other process running alongside Minecraft.
Java heap is the portion Java may use for Minecraft objects. The -Xmx option sets its maximum; -Xms sets its initial heap. Giving Java every available gigabyte leaves no safety margin and can cause the operating system or other services to compete with the server.

For ATM10, one 2026 guide reports that the shipped user_jvm_args.txt uses -Xmx8G while suggesting roughly 12 GB of total RAM. A separate manifest reference reports an 8,196 MB recommended heap and about 12 GB total after overhead. Because the two files and sources do not perfectly agree, inspect the files in the specific ATM10 release you installed instead of assuming every download has the same defaults.
How player count changes the requirement
One to a few players
A private world with only one or two active players can often begin at the low end of the small-group range. Exploration still matters: several players flying or travelling in different directions load more terrain than the same players building in one base. Start conservatively, then watch the process while everyone plays normally.

About five players
For a regular friend group of roughly five, allocate a machine with 12–16 GB total RAM. An 8–12 GB heap is the cited starting window. Choose the lower heap when the machine has little spare memory or performs other jobs; choose the upper end only when monitoring shows that the server is approaching its limit and the host has sufficient unused RAM.
Ten to 20 players
Space-Node’s 2026 scaling guidance places this group at 16–20 GB total. Treat that as capacity planning, not a promise of a particular tick rate. Mod interactions, farms, chunk loaders and the distance between players can make a lightly populated world heavier than a compact base-building session.

Public servers are advised in the same guides to start around 20–24 GB or more. At this size, RAM is only one capacity limit: CPU time, storage latency, network capacity and moderation tooling also affect the experience. Increase memory in response to measured peaks rather than choosing an enormous heap simply because the machine has it.
Why ATM10 needs more memory than vanilla Minecraft
ATM10 combines a large number of mods, registries, recipes, world-generation systems and machines. During startup, Java must load those classes and data. During play, the server keeps entities, block states, inventories, pathfinding data and recently used chunks in memory. New terrain generation and widely separated players increase the working set.

A heap that is too small forces Java to collect garbage more frequently. The visible symptoms can be long pauses, delayed block updates, players being kicked during a spike, or a crash reporting an out-of-memory condition. A heap that is far too large can also be counterproductive: garbage collection has a larger region to scan, so a collection pause may last longer. The useful target is enough headroom for the busiest normal session, not the largest number you can enter in a control panel.
Set the heap safely
1. Confirm the Java runtime
Guides cited for ATM10 specify Java 21. Check the server’s runtime with java -version, or use the Java selector in your host’s control panel. If it reports another major version, install or select Java 21 before diagnosing memory behavior. The Java-version recommendation is attributed to an MC-Node guide title and should be checked against the requirements shipped with your particular ATM10 release.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →2. Find the active argument file
Look for user_jvm_args.txt in the server files and for a panel-level memory field. Search for every -Xmx entry. Different distributions can ship different defaults: one report shows -Xmx8G, while a search result about ATM server files says no heap is set by default and a commented -Xmx4G may appear. Do not leave competing values in place; determine which argument the launch script actually passes.
3. Choose a heap below total RAM
On a 12 GB machine dedicated mostly to this server, an 8 GB maximum heap is the conservative starting point reported for ATM10. On a 16 GB machine hosting a five-player group, move toward the upper part of the 8–12 GB window only if monitoring shows sustained pressure. Leave room for the operating system and every other process. If a host sells memory in fixed increments, select the next tier that preserves this margin rather than assigning the full advertised amount to Java.

4. Restart and verify
Save the argument or panel setting, perform a full server restart, and check the startup log for the effective maximum heap. A restart is required; changing a text file while the process is running does not change the current heap. Record the setting alongside the ATM10 version so you can reproduce it after an update.
Self-hosting versus a managed server
| Decision factor | Self-hosted machine | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Memory control | You choose the machine size and Java flags, including the exact -Xmx value. |
The provider exposes a plan limit or memory field; some JVM details may be managed for you. |
| Cost model | Up-front hardware or an existing computer, plus electricity and storage. | Recurring monthly charge tied to the selected RAM tier. |
| Scaling | Requires adding physical memory or moving to a larger machine. | Often changes by switching plan, subject to the provider’s available tiers. |
| Maintenance | You handle Java 21, backups, updates, firewall rules and recovery. | The provider may simplify deployment and backups, but you still need to verify pack files and settings. |
Whichever model you use, compare the total RAM allowance with the heap limit. A plan advertised as 12 GB may not give all 12 GB to Java, and a self-hosted computer with 16 GB may have much less available if it is also a desktop, storage server or streaming machine.

Measure before buying more RAM
Test under the workload your players actually create. Have everyone join, travel to separate areas, generate new terrain, use machines and operate the largest farms. Watch the server console and operating-system memory graph during those peaks.
- Heap consistently near its maximum: increase the machine’s total RAM and then raise
-Xmxin a modest step, keeping operating-system headroom. - Large pauses while plenty of RAM remains unused: do not immediately add memory. Check for an oversized heap, a CPU bottleneck or a mod causing excessive work.
- Out-of-memory crash: confirm that the intended
-Xmxis active, remove duplicate or conflicting arguments, and check whether another process consumed the missing memory. - Lag only while exploring: memory may be part of the problem, but world generation and storage speed can also be limiting factors.
- Lag when players return to a busy base: inspect chunk loaders, entities, item transport and machine activity before assuming the server needs unlimited RAM.
Make one change at a time and retest the same scenario. A measured baseline is more useful than a larger number chosen from a plan table.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Common allocation mistakes
Confusing client RAM with server RAM
The memory assigned to a single-player client is not a server requirement. A dedicated server needs its own Java process and its own heap. The client also needs memory for rendering, shaders and local assets, so its setting cannot be substituted for the server value.
Copying ATM8 settings
Older All the Mods 8 files shipped with -Xmx6G, and users reported that as too small for that older pack. ATM8 is not ATM10; copying its argument file is not a reliable way to size the newer pack.
Trusting an unverified minimum as a recommendation
The 10 GB server-side minimum attributed to a pack-author figure is useful as a warning that ATM10 is memory-intensive, but it is not verified against an official pack page. The 11 GB recommendation for more players and chunks is likewise a third-party guide figure. Use them as planning references and validate your own installation.
Ignoring updates
Pack releases can change mod versions, world generation and memory behavior. Recheck the current server files after an ATM10 update, especially user_jvm_args.txt, and repeat a peak-load test before reducing or increasing the allocation.
Practical starting plans
| Players and workload | Machine to start with | Initial approach | When to move up |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–3, shared base | 12 GB total | Use the lower heap setting reported for ATM10 and monitor startup and exploration. | Move up if the heap stays near its limit or the world regularly pauses under normal activity. |
| About 5, independent exploration | 14–16 GB total | Begin within the 8–12 GB heap window while preserving host headroom. | Increase after testing simultaneous travel, machines and farms. |
| 10–20, active community | 16–20 GB total | Choose a heap based on observed peak use rather than assigning all available memory. | Move toward the next machine tier when peaks coincide with lag or collection pressure. |
| Public server | 20–24 GB or more | Plan for peaks and non-Minecraft services as well as the Java process. | Scale using monitoring, CPU and storage metrics, not RAM alone. |
Bottom line for an ATM10 server
For most friend groups, buy or assign 12–16 GB of total RAM, start Java around 8 GB and adjust toward 12 GB only when measurements justify it. Use Java 21, inspect the exact arguments shipped with your ATM10 release, and leave capacity for the operating system and other services. Larger communities should plan from the player-count ranges above, then confirm the choice with a real peak-load session because all published figures are estimates rather than a single official ATM10 requirement.
