A digital PS4 installation also needs an additional 50 GB during setup, so leave more free space than the final installation figure suggests.

How much free space do you need to install it?
For PS4, the installation method matters: Rockstar specifies 99 GB for a disc installation, while a digital installation needs that 99 GB plus another 50 GB during the process. The combined 149 GB is not the final installed size; the extra space is an installation allowance. Rockstar does not state an equivalent temporary-space figure for Xbox One.
On Xbox One, use 107 GB as the published installation-space requirement. On PC, allow 150 GB of available HDD space. Rockstar notes that downloadable content and programming changes can alter PC requirements, so check the current platform prompt if you are close to the limit.

Is that the download size?
No exact current download size is stated in the cited Rockstar requirements or Steam listing. Their figures describe installation or available disk space, not the size of the download payload. The download and the space required after installation are different measures, so the storage requirement should not be presented as a download estimate.

No. Rockstar lists 99 GB of installation space for the PS4 disc version. A disc does not eliminate the need to reserve storage on the console.
